Mentoring
Is there a place to refer contributors to for mentoring, or list of experienced Wikipedians willing to engage in mentoring? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. nagualdesign 01:00, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Search question
Is there an easy way to search for articles in a specific field that have certain tags? For example, if I wanted to search for educators that have the notability tag how would I do that? Sandals1 (talk) 04:29, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
- See the Tracking categories section in the docs for {{Notability}}. Also see e.g., Category:All articles with topics of unclear notability. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 05:35, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks, but it's not really what I'm looking for. Isn't there a program or template or something that allows me to search for articles with certain characteristics? Other examples would be to find biographies that have been tagged for a conflict of interest or sports articles that have been marked as needing more sources.Sandals1 (talk) 16:20, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Sandals1:
incategory
is your friend, see Help:Searching. This being said, I do not manage to get it to work for multiple cats - I would have said that for your second example, incategory:"Misplaced Pages articles with possible conflicts of interest" incategory:"Biography articles of living people"
would do the trick but the result page is empty, as well as the help page's example ofincategory:"Suspension bridges in the United States" incategory:Bridges_in_New_York_City
, so either something is broken or the doc is out-of-date. Tigraan 14:12, 29 December 2017 (UTC)- Tigraan, thanks for looking. It seems like there's no way to easily search for articles with certain characteristics.Sandals1 (talk) 15:40, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

Help changing an article title
ResolvedHi,
I'd really appreciate a push in the right direction - I've looked at the instructions on how to change an article title but I'm not autoconfirmed. Is there any way to change a title without first being autoconfirmed?
The issue is minor but has legal ramifications. The title of this article ]ShowMax is ShowMax. I'm looking to change it to Showmax (without the camel capital). The company no-longer uses the camel capital (as of August 2016). I've added an entry to the history section of the article that details this change.
Any help would be hugely appreciated, thanks!Cottoncocoon (talk) 05:08, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
- I've moved the article. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 05:29, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
Where to complain one "διαχειριστής" (greek for administrator) in another WP project
Hi all. I want to complain about the acts of a certain administrator in another WP project. Which door should I knock? Thanks for the help. Τζερόνυμο (talk) 07:32, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

- Thanks for the answer David Biddulph, but that not what I am looking for. I don't want to complain on the greek version of WP:AN but to a higher level. The reason lies on the nature of my complain. - Ok, let me make a quick summury and inform me what to do: As you may know, Greece and Turkey are considerned bitter rivals since ages. I edited some articles, conserning the history of the two countries, and a)added the Turkish perspective and b)added the atrocities committed by Greek paramilitaries. Every addition was cited to academic or reliable secondary source (bbc, Nyt etc) That was enough to brand me as anti-Greek by some users and an administrator ban me from editing histroy articles on the ground of discrimination. The same story in Religion, I have edited some articles concerning atheism and christianity -mostly translations from en.WP. They branded me as anti-christian and banned me from editing religious articles on the ground of discrimination. It is a clear violation of the principles of Misplaced Pages, that administrator is preventing me to make useful contributions to Misplaced Pages. I can provide citation if needed. So.... where should I go and complain? Τζερόνυμο (talk) 09:11, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

2017 Lusophony Games already held? The years only three days left. Simon 1996 (talk) 10:38, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
- It is surprisingly hard to find any information. The latest I found is from 2015 where Mozambique still said they would hold the games in 2017. I guess they were quietly cancelled. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:02, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

- A November 2017 article in Portuguese talks about discussions to hold Lusophony Games in July 2018 in São Tomé and Príncipe. I guess that would be a replacement for the scheduled 2017 games in Mozambique. If it happens and is just viewed as the 4th Lusophony Games then it might be called a delay and change of location. AD vs CE
I have a problem with the us of "common era" CE instead of "Anno Domini" AD. It's stupid. The PROTEST to having a date linked to a Christian or religious benchmark is a waste of time and energy because none of today's existence would be where it is if it weren't for Jesus. Doesn't make any difference what one believes, the truth is that the beginning of the Common Era stills start on Jesus's birthday. If they wanted to be really accurate, they should start the Common Era four years before the Anno Domini year one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Falerina (talk • contribs) 18:11, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
- @Falerina: Both AD/BC and CE/BCE are allowed in Misplaced Pages articles, but each article should use one or the other not both. See WP:MOS. If there is a particular article that you think should be using AD instead of CE, please discuss it on that article's talk page to get consensus. RudolfRed (talk) 18:21, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

- @Renerpho: Here's to the Bielfield Meridian, may it exist or not. :)Naraht (talk) 20:23, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- Here is my view, which I think is well-grounded in policy. These designations are only needed in articles about things that happened in early history, over 2000 years ago, or within a few hundred years after that. For pre-history, we can say something like "100,000 years ago". Contemporary events do not need these designations. BC/AD are designations that originated in Christianity and should be used in articles about early Christianity and Christian communities. BCE/CE are more neutral designations, and should be used in articles about Judaism of that era and civilizations with no connection with Judeo-Christianity at that time, such as India, China and Japan. Cullen Let's discuss it 06:48, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

Block User
Just like User_talk:Burger King Corporation, User:DongbuHiTek was created for the same purposes User:Burger King Corporation was created, it only made one edit: and it was to add that company to that list. It's unactive, but it could easily be used for self promotional purposes. That edit, even though it was a constructive one, was made by a user that is clearly owned by a company looking for self promotion. Pancho507 (talk) 21:24, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
- I almost got waylaid by your message. Pancho, while the user account you mention is promotional and could have been blocked if it had been reported in 2015, right now there's no need to act on such user accounts that have made promotional edits years ago, unless they're tripping the edit filter log recently. These are considered stale reports. Thanks, Lourdes 09:15, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
Do wikitables break talk pages?
ResolvedAt Talk:Georges St-Pierre, Brokenlegmike placed a requested wikitable in the section "Adding "Weight Class Fought in" column to each mma fighters "Mixed Martial Arts Record" Table." The template coding for the table appears in the correct section in the edit window but the table results appear in the last section of the talk page and joins the template for edit requests to itself in the "Semi-protected edit request on 27 December 2017" section. Notable football clubs in non-FIFA countries
Are football clubs in non-FIFA countries that have multiple trustworthy articles about them considered notable, as there are many red links on the page List of top-division football clubs in non-FIFA countries, and I'm not sure if they are not made because they aren't notable or if other wikipedians haven't gotten around to editing it. A Lenz with no contact (talk) 06:45, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, is the short answer (assuming that the multiple sources you mention have discussed the club(s) significantly). WP:ORG gives the appropriate guidelines that each club will have to meet to be considered notable. Write back for more assistance. Thanks, Lourdes 09:03, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

List of 4 O'Clock Club episodes
This article, about a TV series, has the number of viewers per episode in a graph. The columns of the graph States the numbers are in millions, but the episodes are up to 493,000. I don't think 493 {short} billion people watched this episode. Clearly, the numbers are not in millions, but they are numbers of units. How do I remove the word "millions" from the column heading?

New Product
Hello I am writing to ask if it is okay for me to create an article about a new product that my company designed. I just want to create an article that defines what our product is because its a new terminology. I work for the company in H. R. and am new to this. I wouild like to write a description of the unit, whats inside and how it works. It's a new technology so we have all the information on it. the only public information available to search online is what we put out. Can I do an article on Wiki?
Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tadbada1 (talk • contribs) 16:37, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Tadbada1. Broadly speaking, you should avoid doing this. Misplaced Pages is not the place to advertise or promote your new products. Further, individuals like you employed by the company would need to comply to our policy on paid editing and to follow our conflict of interest guidelines. To be considered for inclusion in Misplaced Pages, any topic would need to meet Misplaced Pages's notability guidelines. As per our notability guidelines for products, "If a company is notable, information on its products and services should generally be included in the article on the company itself." While I don't know the name of your company or your product, if your new product becomes notable in the future, some or the other editor on Misplaced Pages will include its information on Misplaced Pages. You don't need to do that yourself. Feel free to write back for any further support. Thanks, Lourdes 18:28, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
- Hello, Tadbada1. I don't wish to be rude, but if you are even thinking of Misplaced Pages in any way connected with your marketing strategy or online presence, then you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what Misplaced Pages is, and you need to read about the Five pillars and What Misplaced Pages is not. Sorry. --ColinFine (talk) 22:27, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry, but no, for two reasons. First, nobody can write such an article, because the subject is not notable. Second, you cannot write such an article because you have a conflict of interest (see WP:COI and WP:PAID). An article's subject must be notable, by Misplaced Pages's definition of notable. By our definition a subject is not notable unless it has been the subject of two or more articles in major publications, where those articles are independent of the subject, (i.e., not press releases or the like.) Please see WP:NOTABILITY and WP:RS.-Arch dude (talk) 03:32, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi everyone!
I was wondering, is it possible to see the number of page views obtained globally by +300 articles? (these ones to be more precise).
I'm asking this because the traditional tool allows to insert only ten articles gradually without giving you the possibility to put them all just once. Thanks very much for the help! --Ruislip Gardens (talk) 20:47, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Please note that you are at Misplaced Pages, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Misplaced Pages itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck. Want to make sure I have set up archiving right at Talk:Quentin Crisp
I have not set up an archive except once long ago manually.
I hope to set up Talk:Quentin Crisp for automatic archiving of threads when they are two years (17520 hours) old, and to have the current content passing that date archived. I would also like ClueBot III to do this now.
I have added this code:
{{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveThis
|archiveprefix=Talk:Quentin Crisp/Archive
|format=Y/F
|age=17520
|archivenow={{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveNow}}
}}
Can anyone advise me if the code is correct, and if not, either fix it for me directly, or tell me what parameters to change?
Thanks. μηδείς (talk) 02:20, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- It seems to have done the archiving, but you probably ought to include a means of navigating to the archives. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:12, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- ..., which I've hopefully done in this edit. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:17, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- The automatic archiving seems to have missed one thread, which apparently wasn't signed conventionally, but you can presumably move that manually to the archive. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:20, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
Great! Thanks a lot, everybody. I simply deleted that one unarchived comment, since it wasn't relevant to improving the article. Happy New Year to all. μηδείς (talk) 20:08, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
BTW, I do have a follow-up question. Should the "archivenow" parameter be removed, given the archiving is up to date, and no action is necessary until the next run of the bot? Or should I leave that line of code in place? My understanding was that its purpose was to draw the Bot's attention given there was unarchived material older than the age parameter that needed attention. Again, thanks. μηδείς (talk) 20:12, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- You're misunderstanding the purpose of the
|archivenow=
parameter, which means "archive threads that contain these templates regardless of their age", not a request to expedite the bot work. Deleting that parameter would mean that threads tagged with {{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveNow}} would no longer get instantly archived, but would have no further affect, thus you could delete it or not as you wish. {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 04:39, 1 January 2018 (UTC)

Good morning. I have opened a membership in the last few days having used the site previously as a non-member. I am reasonably familiar with XML so editing the site is not difficult for me. I have to say that I am not impressed by the site and I doubt if I will continue membership. Some of the facilities are certainly useful, though I have only experimented thus far: Hotcat, Purge, Twinkle. Being able to move a page would undoubtedly be advantageous and the watchlist is very handy. I understood that I would be welcomed and given good advice and guidance about site protocol, policies, useful information, etc. but nothing like that has happened and I have had to find out things for myself. It would, for example, have been nice if someone could have issued me with something to explain all the preferences options. I have selected a few for use, and discarded a few too, but half of the remainder are meaningless without explanation of their function.
Where I have encountered a real problem is in the unacceptable attitude towards me of someone calling himself "Nicknack009". I have no wish to "blow my trumpet" but please accept on good faith that I am a subject matter expert (SME) in ancient history, especially the period of Roman history from, say, Sulla to the death of Marcus Aurelius. I am well aware of Cunobelinus, as I would call him, and I thought I could improve that article a little, as I have done with two or three other articles. It may well be that, given my inexperience of the site, I breached a certain protocol about the use of BC/AD but it was not pointed out to me by the first editor who reverted part of my update. I tried again and left a comment that as the subject was not a Christian, it would be more appropriate to use BCE/CE notation.
I have subsequently been accused not once but twice by this Nicknack individual that I am an "AD/BC zealot" and I have to say that I find this insulting, especially as he did not merely correct my CE notations but also wiped out everything else I had done as if it was rubbish. This is unacceptable. I saw the BC/AD protocol after his first revert and said I would respect it. I have done so in my latest update of the article a few minutes ago. I'm afraid I saw red when I was twice called a "zealot" but that sort of sarcastic, dismissive, insulting behaviour by a supposedly experienced editor is completely unacceptable.
I am aware by received wisdom from multiple sources that this site is struggling to keep good editors. If people like this Nicknack can go around behaving in a territorial manner and shouting abuse at newcomers, it is hardly surprising.
I will probably not be available again till about Tuesday or Wednesday but I will look in when I can and I will decide then whether it is a good idea to continue as a member. As things currently stand, that is unlikely. I am not at all impressed. VZ (talk) 11:54, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- Hello Vergangene Zeiten, your edits changing the dating style were first reverted by one editor, who left a concise explanation in the edit summary. You reinserted the dating style, and that's when Nick reverted your addition again using the term "revert WP:ERA zealotry" in the edit summary. You once again attempted to change the dating style with a misleading edit summary (claiming you will respect the guideline... but actually didn't), and were reverted again by Nick with a similar "zealotry" edit summary; post which, Nick proceeded to leave a well-worded and quite a decent note to you on your talk page. Not only did you delete this note calling him an "a__hole", you proceeded to his talk page and again addressed him as that (apart from telling him to "stick zealotry up his..."). Honestly, it's a wonder you've not been warned more strongly for attacking an established editor like that. Personal attacks like what you made on Nick can lead to editors getting blocked – so avoid that from hereon.
- At this juncture, I would strongly suggest to you to apologize to Nick, and take up editing discussions on Talk:Cunobeline – basically, follow the procedure described at dispute resolution than call editors names. Also, please give a deep read to edit warring, which is another way your account may get blocked, if you continue reverting other editors without consensus. Feel free to write back for more assistance – but stop your current line of attacks and reverting behavior immediately first. Thanks, Lourdes 13:18, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
I won't bother. What a setup. No wonder you can't keep good editors. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vergangene Zeiten (talk • contribs) 17:00, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- Hello, Vergangene Zeiten. I am sure you know your subject in very great detail and that you could have contributed a lot to Misplaced Pages should you have chosen to. However, looking at your contributions since you joined us five days ago you have come across in places rather like a Highways Engineer who knows all about the design, construction and management of our roadways, but has never driven a car before. Since getting in the driving seat you have rather managed to blindly steer the wrong way up a number of roads here, ignoring the shouts of those around you who know better how to drive and who understand the rules of those particular roads. Driving safely is a cooperative act, just as editing Misplaced Pages is. Sometimes a driver who prefers to travel on the wrong side of the road, no matter how skilled, is better off staying at home until they're able to recognise the importance of driving with courtesy and common sense. Publishing a page
Hello,
Using sandbox I've just published a page titled Zeshan Qureshi, I was wondering how long it takes for this to be viewable to the general public?

I've corrected a template but the article that uses that template still shows the mistake. Why?
The article Muhammad uses the template Template:Muhammad timeline in Medina. That template has a spurious "duick" inserted (either a mistake or a piece of vandalism). I corrected the template but "duick" still shows in the template where it is used in the article. How come? Basemetal 13:16, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

Do I merge Talk pages in a full paste merger?
Sorry to bother you with an elementary question, but I just wanted to check: I don't merge the source Talk page into the destination Talk page when I perform a full paste merger, right? The instructions at WP:Merging say just put the "merged-to" template on the source Talk page. --Chetvorno 20:38, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- Hello Chetvorno, the instructions at WP:Merging are right. You only have to place the template; you don't need to actually merge the talk pages. I guess we all have our elementary questions (including me – while we can thank people using the history link on any page, I would love to be able to thank people using the log feed; in the sense, if someone were to delete an article, I should be able to thank them using the exact log entry... but haven't found a way to do that till now :D) Have fun in the new year. Is a copyrighted logo permissible for usage in a userbox provided consent has been given by the copyright holder?
I'm interested in using a copyrighted logo including texts and deigns to identify myself as a user of that search engine. There are similar userboxes such as for Google and Yahoo but none for this one. If I were to obtain consent from the copyright holder to use it for a userbox and forward proof of consent to Wikimedia, is it permissible for use in the userbox?
The image already exists on Misplaced Pages under fair use but I need some clarification on the permit to use copyrighted logos for userboxes. Is permission itself sufficient enough or is something else required? Where may I forward the consent email? To what address? Much appreciation for any assistance.--NadirAli نادر علی (talk) 22:10, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
- Hello, NadirAli. No, I'm afraid that consent to use the image on Misplaced Pages is not enough: one of the goals of Misplaced Pages is to make all its material completely free for reuse for any purpose (requiring only that it be attributed). For reasons I don't know for sure, but I guess would be that this limits the available images too far, non-free images have been allowed in certain strictly limited circumstances. But there is no middle ground: either an image in Misplaced Pages may be reused freely, or it may not. So in order for a copyright image to be used in Misplaced Pages, the copyright owner must explicitly license it under a suitable licence which will allow anybody to reuse if for any purpose (including modifying it) as long as they attribute it properly. Owners of logos usually are not willing to do this, for understandable reasons. If the owner is willing to, they need either to upload it to Commons themselves, licensing it as they do so; or they need to follow the procedure in donating copyright materials. --ColinFine (talk) 00:36, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
- To editor ColinFine: thank you for your fast response. I'm glad I inquired here first. So to sum it up, using logos, even with consent from the copyright holder is not acceptable for userboxes according to Wikimedia's terms of use, even if that specific purpose has been consented. I stated correctly?--NadirAli نادر علی (talk) 03:44, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
- See Misplaced Pages:Userboxes#Caution about image use. nagualdesign 03:49, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
- ...You know, some official company logos, such as , don't meet the threshold of originality needed for copyright protection and are therefore public domain. You might want to search for it on Commons. If it's there, you can use it. nagualdesign 04:01, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
- To editor Nagualdesign:, that's correct. Google's main logo consists entirely of text images, so therefor it's out of copyright protection. In fact the userbox template users may display expressing Google as their primary search engine exists as I've seen it. But I no longer use Google as my primary search engine and have mostly switched to using Ecosia. But the problem is Ecosia's logo is copyright and exists on Misplaced Pages under fair use. Being a user of that search engine, I am seeking to create a userbox expressing such, but need to be more familiar with the conditions of using copyright image, which according to the previous above messages are not to be used for userboxes, even if the copyright holder grants permission for such purpose.--NadirAli نادر علی (talk) 20:16, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

This user supports planting trees by using Ecosia as their primary search engine. |
- @NadirAli: I uploaded the central portion of the Ecosia logo to Commons (jpg/png), which doesn't meet the threshold of originality. I also took the liberty of creating a userbox for you in your user space: User:NadirAli/Userbox/Ecosia. I'll leave it to you to decide on the finished wording and colours. prints
I have a book of old Japanese woodblock prints. Would photos of it / them be good for Misplaced Pages? Benjamin (talk) 04:44, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you for the offer Benjamin. You would, however, need to be very careful that in uploading such photos you were not infringing the book publisher's copyright. If the book is several centuries old, or the publisher has explicitly released it under a free licence (like Misplaced Pages itself), then you should be OK. Our page on uploading images gives more explanation on the copyright aspects and also points to guidance on how to go about uploading, if you do think it's safe. Mostly the pictures would be put on to Wikimedia Commons, that way they become available to Wikipedias for all languages and other Wikimedia sister projects: Noyster (talk), 17:36, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
- This particular situation is even more complicated than the usual copyright situation. The artist's copyright on the original prints expired 70 years after the artist's death (ro at soem other data in the past, depending on the rules in the country in which they were first "published" (i.e., made public). In many countries, a faithful 2-dimensional reproduction of a 2-dimensional work (i.e., the pictures in your book) cannot be separately copyrighted, and therefore are in the public domain, because copyright protects the creator of a creative work, and the act of faithfully copying is deemed not to be creative. Note that the book itself as a whole may still be copyrighted as a "collective work", because "selection, arrangement, and presentation" are deemed to be creative. However, this copyright does not retroactively cover the images of the original works themselves, even when you copy the images from the book. So, you have some homework to do before you can assert that your images are in the public domain. Document your homework briefly in the justification section of your upload to Wiki commons. As to your original question: yes, these images are very likely to be good for Misplaced Pages. Please include them in the appropriate articles after you upload them, assuming your homework shows that they are in fact public domain. -Arch dude (talk) 01:50, 1 January 2018 (UTC)
- Wiki Commons is hosted on servers located in the United States and material thereon is subject to US copyright law. My discussion of images of 2-dimensional art apply. The relevant court case is Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp.. -Arch dude (talk) 01:57, 1 January 2018 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages opening view
Good evening. When I open Misplaced Pages it is emphasised in black and to the left of the address bar is a black box. Tapping the black box once, turns it grey and more information becomes available to view.

How to view Special:RecentChanges for recent 2,000 changes?
In the past, I can view Special:RecentChanges for recent 2,000 changes, by changing the "limit" to 2,000 in the URL. However, for the new version of Special:RecentChanges, even I change the "limit", it still only displays recent 1,000 changes only, not 2,000 anymore. Is there any way I can view recent 2,000 changes again? --Kowlooner (talk) 11:33, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
- I opened Chrome, removed all the filters, used the https://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Special:RecentChanges&limit=2000&days=30 link, exported the results to Excel, and it showed me exactly 2000 results. Safari kept hanging at anything above 500. Perhaps it's an issue with the browser rather than the software. Other editors may be able to fill in more comprehensively here. Thanks, Lourdes 11:49, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks. Now I notice the problem only exists when I keep the new URL format "hidebots=1&hidecategorization=1&hideWikibase=1&limit=2000&days=7&urlversion=2", but it works fine for just keeping "limit=2000&days=30" and removing all other parameters. --Kowlooner (talk) 12:42, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

At Talk:Salinator, Template:Press is used. The template ought to say, "This article has been mentioned by a media organization". But instead, on that talk page it says, "template has been mentioned by a media organization" (with no "This" and with a reference to a "template" instead of a "article").
I looked at the source code for Template:Press, and while I'm not good at reading template code, it appears to me that the only options for the beginning of that sentence are "This article" and "This page", not "template", so I don't know where that phrasing is coming from. Copyright question
Hello,
I would like to know if I can use a photograph from a certain webpage in a Misplaced Pages article I am writing.
The website was owned by a company that has merged with another company and been rebranded.
At the bottom of the webpage is a copyright notice that says "copyright 2000-2014". I would like to know if I can use a photo from this website because the copyright notice ends in 2014.
All of the material and photos were owned by the company that has merged.
thanks,

Adding first "in Fiction" reference
I wrote a near-future sci-fi novella set in North Korea. The setting was chosen in large part to draw attention to the poverty facing North Koreans and is carefully researched such that the other-than-sci-fi elements relating to poverty and the life of non-elites are believed accurate.
Many articles include information about how a topic has been treated in fiction. Is it appropriate to add an "in fiction" mention of my novella in the article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Poverty_in_North_Korea ?
If so, what form would that take? I see that "in fiction" information now takes the form of a separate article at least in some cases

Thank you for your guidance.

@Ruslik0: not yet, it's just been published. How do I measure notability and how do I determine whether the community would find it notable enough for inclusion? Is the threshold for inclusion different on a presumably less popular article "Poverty in North Korea" compared to inclusion on a highly popular article? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by EricJohannsen (talk • contribs) 19:27, 1 January 2018 (UTC)

Inquiry of Information or Data in Misplaced Pages Being Credible and/or Factual
According to a multitude of people I have spoken with in high school and college education institutions, information in Misplaced Pages is not acceptable to be used as a reference for research. The goes especially for writing term papers, research papers, and articles for school newspaper publication. The reason they are stating this is that they believe anyone can edit the information in Misplaced Pages even if it is not true or factual or correct.
So, please tell me how often is information fact-checked for accuracy, and who is doing the fact-checking. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:CD00:F4D0:BC0C:644B:7B2C:573F (talk) 19:40, 1 January 2018 (UTC)
- Misplaced Pages is not systematically fact-checked. Volunteer editors (i.e., anybody) may choose to fact-check. This quasi-random activity is surprising effective, making Misplaced Pages at least as reliable as other sources in almost all studies of the result. However, this is not good enough for academic work because it is not traceable to reliable sources, therefore, you cannot and should not cite Misplaced Pages directly. However, you are free to use Misplaced Pages articles to find the reliable sources on which they are supposed to be based, and then read and cite those sources. -Arch dude (talk) 21:47, 1 January 2018 (UTC)
- It's like this. Misplaced Pages is written/edited by volunteers who edit what they please when they please (plus some people who are paid to edit what they edit about). "They believe anyone can edit the information in Misplaced Pages even if it is not true or factual or correct." They are entirely correct, but WP can an do have plenty of good info anyway, you just have to use it with some caution. More at Reliability of Misplaced Pages.
