Rule has several meanings:
- A rule in mathematics is something which is always true.
- A rule is a law applied to citizens in the wider interests of society. (This may include rules that acquire legal force under the terms of a contract.)
- A rule may also be used a straightedge and for measurement.
- Rule of thumb is a suggestion which is usually a good idea.
- To rule a country is to control the country.
