Carnage is the name of a supervillain in the Spider-Man comic book published by Marvel Comics. He was once the serial killer Cletus Kassidy who was merged with the offspring of the alien symbiont called Venom.

The alien material is made of tough, flexible fibers of organic polymers which have the ability to mimic any type of clothing whatsoever. The costume dampens Spider-Man's spider-sense and the symbiotic relationship between the wearer and the costume also gives the ability to block Venom's capability of sensing the spawn of his costume.

In addition to the above abilities, when wearing the costume Carnage possesses the ability to adhere to most surfaces with his hands and feet and project a web-like substance from any part of his costume. He can also separate parts of his costume from himself and use them as weapons, however they disapate after a very short time. C

The most famous storyline in which he appears is Maximum Carnage.

In the Ultimate Marvel continuity, Carnage has a somewhat different origin (combining the origin of Ultimate Venom with elements of the Scarlet Spider), and murders Gwen Stacy.
