He is one of the four members of the Swedish pop group Ace of Base. His father is the former tennis coach of the Swedish and Danish national teams. Growing up, Ulf experienced problems with drugs and violence, and he now fights against violence and the abuse of drugs among adolescents. In 1993 Ekberg made it public that he used to be part of a racist gang and played in the band Commit Suiside, who were afilliated with Rock Against Communism. He says he has long broken these ties and regrets them.
Ace of Base are, with their 23 million sold albums of Happy Nation, in the Guinness Book of Records for the most selling debut album ever.1993 Ace of Base stayed no 1 for 6 weeks on Billboards single and album list with The Sign and sold, as the only non-american band, diamond with the album. 1993 they where nominated in the USA for 3 Grammy Awards, won 2 American Music Awards and 2 Billboard Awards.
Ace of Base have reached the no 1 chart position on every chart around the world and released 4 albums and 1 "best of" album with 4 new songs.
Ulf yearly donates money for cancer research and often contributes at different charity events. Ulf also actively supports projects that focusing on childrens protection and future around the world including the HIV problem in Africa. He has been involved with several projects together with UNESCO and Save the Children.
After Ekberg experienced the tsunami in Phuket, Thailand he founded the Surin Relief Fund to support effected children by providing facilities to school children and care for orphaned children.
Ulf has during 1996-2005 produced several artists, TV productions, films and events.
Ekberg celibrated the Millenium (2000) with Bill Clinton at the White House.
He has also, during many years, been a strategic advisor to several global consumer brands and active in many "think tanks" both regarding environmental issues and Global Businesses.
He now resides in London, England, with his girlfriend Johanna and their son Viggo. His previous girlfriend was Emma Sjoberg, a renowned model and actress. On October 7, 2006, Ulf became a father for the second time when Johanna gave birth to new son Vincent.
