Zombie Land Saga (Japanese: ゾンビランドサガ, Hepburn: Zonbirando Saga) is a anime television series produced by Cygames in collaboration with Avex Pictures, and animated by studio MAPPA. The series began airing in Japan from October 4, 2018.
Plot
In the year 2008, high school girl Sakura Minamoto is abruptly killed in a traffic accident. Ten years later, Sakura, along with other girls from various eras, are brought back as zombies by a man named Kōtarō Tatsumi, who seeks to save the Saga prefecture by putting together an all-zombie idol group.

- Sakura Minamoto (源 さくら, Minamoto Sakura)
- Voiced by: Kaede Hondo
- The main heroine; a high school girl who died in 2008 after being hit by a truck and was ressurected as a zombie by Kotaro. As the first of the zombies to awaken her proper senses, she is nicknamed "Zombie 1".
- Kōtarō Tatsumi (巽 幸太郎, Tatsumi Kōtarō)
- Voiced by: Mamoru Miyano
- A manic producer who ressurects Sakura and the other girls as zombies to form an idol group and save the Saga prefecture. He is a skilled make-up artists, able to make the zombies look like normal humans during their public appearances.
- Saki Nikaidō (二階堂 サキ, Nikaidō Saki)
- Voiced by: Asami Tano
- A former biker gang leader.
- Ai Mizuno (水野 愛, Mizuno Ai)
- Voiced by: Risa Taneda
- The center of the 2000 idol group Iron Frill, who Sakura was a fan of when she was alive.
- Junko Konno (紺野 純子, Konno Junko)
- Voiced by: Maki Kawase
- An idol from the 1980s.
- Yūgiri (ゆうぎり)
- Voiced by: Rika Kinugawa
- A girl from the Meiji era.
- Lily Hoshikawa (星川 リリィ, Hoshikawa Ririi)
- Voiced by: Minami Tanaka
- A child actress whose heart is located on the outside of her body.
- Tae Yamada (山田 たえ, Yamada Tae)
- A girl who is simply referred to as being "legendary".
- Romero (ロメロ)
- Voiced by: Yasuhiro Takato
- Kotaro's pet dog, who is also a zombie.
Production and release
Cygames announced the series, in collaboration with Avex Pictures, on July 5, 2018. The series will be directed by Munehisa Sakai and written by Shigeru Murakoshi, with animation by studio MAPPA. The series' character designs are provided by Kasumi Fukagawa, Kazuo Ogura is the art director, Takashi Yanagida is serving as director of photography, Azusa Sasaki is the color designer, and Masahiro Goto is editing the series. Yasuharu Takanashi is composing the series' music, which will be produced by Avex Pictures, while dugout is producing the sound. Both the opening theme song "Adabana Necormancy" (徒花ネクロマンシー, lit. "Fruitless Necromancy") and the ending theme song "Hikari e" (光へ, lit. "To the Light") are image songs performed in character by the actresses Hondo, Tano, Taneda, Kawase, Kinugawa, and Tanaka. The 12-episode series began airing from October 4, 2018, and will be broadcast on AT-X, Tokyo MX, Sun TV, BS11, Saga TV, and TVQ. The series is being simulcast by Crunchyroll and simuldubbed by Funimation.
