The village lies within the historic county boundaries of Cheshire.
Transport
The village sits on the Macclesfield Canal, the Middlewood Way and the A6, a major trunk road in England connecting Luton in the south with Carlisle in the north. The nearest train station to High Lane is Middlewood.
Location
The village is bordered by the villages of Hazel Grove to the west, Marple to the north, and Disley (in the county of Cheshire) to the east. Since the village is in the foothills of the Pennines, on clear days it affords some excellent views of the city of Manchester and surrounding towns.
Amenities
High Lane has two schools; High Lane Primary School and Brookside Primary School. There are three parks in High Lane, Brookside Park, Windlehurst Park and High Lane Park, which is the largest and in 2000 had a small skatepark installed.

Sport
The village also has its own Cricket Club situated near the canal. The club is over 100 years old and plays in the Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League. Last season the second eleven reached the final of the Hawke Trophy, eventually losing to Hayfield - a massive achievement for the club.
At the edge of the village is Wybersley Hall, the birthplace of author Christopher Isherwood, and also of the Chief Justice John Bradshaw.
Parliamentary representation
The local Member of Parliament for High Lane is Andrew Stunell, a member of the Liberal Democrats.
