Markus Rosenberg born (September 27, 1982 in Malmö) is a Swedish footballer.

Biography

Markus Rosenberg is a Swedish footballer. As of 2005, he has played three games and scored once for the Swedish national team.

He began his playing career with Malmö FF, although he struggled to hold down a first-team place and in 2004 he was loaned to Halmstads BK. Playing for Halmstad he became the top scorer of the 2004 season. Back in Malmö, he also topped the Royal League 2004-05 scoring list. His nickname is Mackan.

From of the beginning of the 2005/2006 season he has played for Ajax Amsterdam. He was transferred for a fee somewhere around 5 million Euros.

Profile

Although more renowned for his aerial ability and strength, Markus Rosenberg is also a dangerous forward with the ball at his feet. He began his career at Malmo, where he made his debut in 2001, but it was during a loan spell at Halmstad in 2004 that he came to the fore. Fourteen goals in 26 outings alerted Ajax, and after a brief return to Malmo, the Dutch heavyweights parted with around €5.3m to land him in June 2005.

Since arriving at the Amsterdam Arena, Rosenberg has not looked back, frequenting the scoresheet during a memorable first season which ended with him collecting a Dutch Cup winner’s medal.

A graduate of Sweden’s impressive U-21 side, Rosenberg made the step up to senior level in January 2005, scoring a late equaliser against Korea Republic after coming on as substitute.

The 23-year-old has since impressed in his country’s colours and netted the winning goal in a friendly defeat of the Czech Republic last year.
