Narendra Modi (born September 17, 1950) is the chief minister of the state of Gujarat in India since October 7, 2001.

He became the Chief Minister of Gujarat when Keshubhai Patel resigned from office following the loss of 2 Assembly bypolls and 1 Lok Sabha seat. Modi is energetic leader with focus on Gujarat's future. Modi is the only CM in the country that donates all his personal gifts for auctions, the money from which goes to girls education.

On June 15, 2004, four people plotting to kill Modi, were killed in an encounter with the Ahmedabad police.
