Thomas Jefferson (b. 1743 d. 1826) was the third president of the United States, from 1801 to 1809. He was the primary author of the Declaration of Independence, and a source of many other contributions to American culture. Achievements of his presidency include the Lewis and Clark Expedition and the Louisiana Purchase.
