Censorship on RDs

We just lost one regular editor (DirkVdM) because of his disagreement with current censorship at the RDs. Will this be the last retreat? Sadly I dont think so--Light current 15:12, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

'Dubious' answers

There have been a number of so called 'dubiuos answers' from RD editors over the past few months. Some of these editors are actually now supporting my block. None of these editors was blocked. Current Blocking

Well, where do I start? It does seem strange that after I responded to all the current criticism regarding recent postings that I should than be blocked for my compliance in altering/removing them. Isnt this the wrong way round? I know some people have been wanting me blocked becuase they think I provide too many light hearted answers on the RDs. These people have to ask them selves about their true motives here.

A Samir correctly says: there is a very murky line between good and bad taste. I think this is the way to define the 'problem': many people seem to find my comments are in poor taste. Before proceeding, I would like some comments on whether this is how the 'problem' can be defined.--Light current 08:45, 6 December 2006 (UTC) (in progress)

I don't get this at all either. Where is the disruption? One so bad that it warrants a one week block? He was accused of bad behaviour and then simply asked which bad behaviour. To which he didn't get an answer. Why? DirkvdM 12:51, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

RFC

It's been suggested at Misplaced Pages:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#User:Light_current that a user conduct RFC may be appropriate in your case. However before going to the trouble (and, possibly, drama) I have some simple questions: Do you believe that a significant number of experienced editors find your conduct at the reference desks frequently inappropriate? Do you think this indicates that you ought to change that behavior? These are the points that an RFC would try to drive home- however if you already realize this, perhaps we can skip this step. If you don't believe that a significant number of experienced editors find your behavior inappropriate, would reading a page where more people said this help to convince you? If not, what would convince you? Do you understand why editors here should listen to the feedback they get from other editors? Friday (talk) 20:56, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

I know this is going to sound a very weak argument, but truly, I am not trying to upset anyone. OK sometimes my 'jokes' may touch somebody's raw nerve I apologise for that. Sometimes someone may see things in my statements that I truly did not intend. I apologise for that. However, when answering as many questions as I do on the RDs Im bound to make a few errors of judgement now and again. I would ask my critics to look at the whole picture, not jst a few selected comments. I would be sad to have to leave the RDs becuase of a few misinterpretations of my posts and because they appear to have upset or offended some people. as I said before, everyone is different and some people may take offence where none at all was intended. I would therefore ask editors and readers to assume good fiath on my part. I am trying to help the RDs and WP in general as my records will show. I admit I have sometimes let my feelings get the better of me and i regret certain attack outbursts. I feel that is now under control. All Im trying to do is to make the RDs a happier place. I think you're a good guy, and I think that you've 'gotten it' that some of your remarks weren't appropriate for the forum of the Ref Desk.

I expect a return to the highest standards of civility and courtesy from everyone involved in this mess, and I look forward to you resuming productive and helpful contributions to the Ref Desk.

Thank you TenofAllTrades for demonstrating your faith in my good faith. And thank you for acting on what appears to be some sort of concensus that the block was too harsh! I have started a discussion on what people think the problem actually is, so it can be defined and legislated for. As I said, I was not conscious of breaking any rules or guidelines.
