Revision as of 04:46, 11 December 2006 by Deltabeignet (talk | contribs) (Blocks of [])(diff) ← Previous revision | Latest revision (diff) | Newer revision → (diff) Picture of the day Tocopilla railway The Tocopilla railway was a mountain railway built to serve the sodium nitrate mines in the Toco area of the Antofagasta Region in Chile. With a gauge of 3 ft 6 in (1,067 mm), it ran from the port of Tocopilla on the Pacific coast up to a height of 4,902 feet (1,494 metres), with gradients up to 1 in 24. The railway was built by a joint-stock company founded in London and was designed by William Stirling of Lima, with a detailed description of the initial operation of the railway published by his brother Robert in 1900. The line was electrified in the mid-1920s and expanded in 1930 with the addition of lines serving new areas of mining. It continued operating into the 21st century, but was forced to close in 2015 when flash flooding caused numerous washouts on the electrified section of the railroad. With the declining prospects for nitrate, it was not economical for the line to be repaired. This photograph taken in 2013 shows a boxcab on the Tocopilla railway, leading a train down towards the coast.Photograph credit: David Gubler ArchiveMore featured pictures...

Help Me Make It Through the Night

If you felt that my contrib to "Help Me Make It Through the Night" fell under the rubric "original research" or even "POV", then you should have indicated it in the "comments" box with your edits. The tagline "text cleaned up..." for a wholesale deletion helps absolutely no one--certainly not the contributor who has been "cleaned up." Please supply three or four helpful words in the future. Thanks.Mason.Jones 17:39, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

194.109.22.149

User:194.109.22.149, who you've blocked before, is at it again: see User talk:Antaeus Feldspar, in which he calls an editor an "anal bitch" and asks "are you on drugs?", among other gems. wikipediatrix 02:49, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Fahrenheit 9/11 controversy

Hi, you keep redirecting this page back to the main Fahrenheit 9/11. You state this is the result of an Afd, a tag and a discussion. Then you ask people to merge useful content. Not only can I not find any discussion or suggestions for this to be merged other than the single comment by the guy who placed the tag, but the result of the Afd was no consensus and took place over a year ago. You have merged this without performing the most important part of a merge - transferring the information across to the article you merged it to - this makes your merge useless as it simply deletes the information unless someone is aware of what has happened and willing to spend the time sifting and moving the information. In all probability this will not happen, and the Fahrenheit 9/11 article will have no controversy section, which is arguably the most important part of the entire business. The article itself is so long and the topic of controversy so large that it will inevitably be recreated and branch off into a new article of its own anyway, so merging this is not going to make any difference, just more work for future editors. Finally the controversy article is quite well written and whilst it is long, it is not too confusing or POV. Please reply and show me where a recent discussion in favour of merging the article is and explain your reasoning behind redirecting this article without merging it. if I don't hear from you soon, I'll move it back again. Thanks --Jackyd101 23:44, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Which LA Times article?

In this diff, you mention the political position you note is "partially nicked from LA Times article". I believe you, but I'd love to have it sourced. I did a quick google and latimes.com search without success. Do you remember ... oh, that was back in January so it's a long shot .. but do you remember any keywords or path that might help locate that article again? TransUtopian 04:21, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Ah, I see. So the current liberal allegiance of the LA TImes refers to its editorials. TransUtopian 22:24, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Layla

Layla is up for a featured article review. Detailed concerns may be found here. Please leave your comments and help us address and maintain this article's featured quality. Sandy 19:39, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations on saving this article's FA status - of all I've nominated for Featured Article Review, yours is the only that has kept it's FA status. LuciferMorgan 19:14, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

Meaning of Lyrics

Hi. You cleaned up my suggestion as to the meaning of the lyrics of A Whiter Shade of Pale. I guess such interpretations are controversial - a para was inserted shortly afterwards debunking it. I wonder if there is a proper place for such interpretations in Misplaced Pages? Neilrobau 11:56, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism to your user page

I thought you might want to know this, as someone else who worked against Hino12's vandalism. You will see if you check your history page that Hino12 vandalized your user page shortly after you warned him.

Michael Erlewine

Hi. Due to your prior involvement with the article, I'd like your input at Talk:Michael Erlewine#Request for comment. Erlewine has e-mailed me, and I would like more editors to add their opinion. Thanks! --Dhartung | Talk 04:03, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Vocation Records photo

How do you manage to find photos of Robert Johnson records? Is it a special skill you have? I'm looking for "Dust My Broom", but lacking talent I'm getting no where. Mattisse(talk) 18:12, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! That's wonderful. So I can download it and then upload it under "fair use"? (I've not done anything but use Wiki Commons before.) Thank you -- it's beautiful! Mattisse(talk) 00:05, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
It turned out great. I'm looking for your page so I can see how you placed it and all for best results. Thank you again. Mattisse(talk) 02:48, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Image:Jazz bass photo.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Jazz bass photo.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Misplaced Pages articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Abu Badali 17:12, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Sporran

I have added a couple of citations regarding the wearing of a sporran to the side. As this is often casual use, it is difficult to document. I also found reference for the formal need to wear the sporran on the hip by highland drummers.

I hope this is more to your liking. -Dr Haggis - Talk 16:30, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Guitar pick revert

Hello, I've seen you've reverted my "rv unmotivated deletion" commit here in Guitar pick article. Can you explain if there's any rationale behind it? I don't see that phrase as meaningless, it emphasises that guitar pick style is a matter of personal preference. --GreyCat 08:48, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

Two more unexplained reverts to vandalism

and . As I explained in my summaries, I had reverted deletions by an editor who already has been warned several times. But you provide no summary for your reverts. Did someone hijack your account? — Sebastian 20:21, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

One edit you reverted was a removal of blatant original research; the other was an explained removal of unsourced and irrelevant material. Remember, the removal of text by an anonymous user does not automatically equal vandalism. Deltabeignet 23:26, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. I'm still not sure if I'm really talking with your old self. You used to be conscientious about this, so it is strange that you wouldn't write summaries anymore, not even for deletions of whole sections. Also, your explanation about the edits shows no knowledge of the applicable Misplaced Pages policies, which doesn't quite fit to an experienced editor of over 8000 edits. — Sebastian 17:17, 10 December 2006 (UTC)    (Please reply on this page. I'll be watching it for a while.)
All right, I'll come clean. I have been editing anonymously as User:69.245.41.105, as part of an informal experiment to investigate how anonymous editors are treated when making good-faith removals of unsourced material. (I still defend the edits themselves; as Jimbo has stressed, speculative material must be aggressively removed.) I have also been using my admin powers to roll back any reversions of my anonymous edits, to see if anyone would challenge an admin making the same edits.
My deepest apologies to you if you if anything I've done has offended or threatened you in any way. I don't intend to make any more anonymous edits, and am willing to accept any consequences for what I have done. Deltabeignet 22:41, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
This is a weird story! Why did you not come clean when you got blocked in October? I still don't see any evidence that you are the same as the original Deltabeignet. It is a well known fact among experienced editors that Jimbo followed up on his remark and that we have an unmistakable policy about this which you violated. Moreover, you blatantly violated several other core policies, not to improve Misplaced Pages, but only to prove your point. — Sebastian 23:24, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
I realized from the start that I was going right against WP:POINT, among other things. If you are seriously concerned that I'm an impostor, I give you my word that I am the same person who was approved for adminship last year. I admit that I've grown a little disillusioned with the project since then, which is as good an explanation as I can give for what I've done. Again, I'll accept any consequences.
(By the way, I don't remember either my username or my IP being blocked in October; could you clarify that?) Deltabeignet 02:51, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Gothic Metal

Please do not blank articles. Doing so is considered Vandalism. Continued abuse of this nature can lead to temporaty or even permenant bans in accordance with the blocking policy. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.44.161.138 (talk) 23:28, 10 December 2006 (UTC).

This apparently refers to this edit, which was immediately before Deltabeignet's reply above (summarized as "the gig is up"). — Sebastian 00:28, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Blocks of User:Leyasu

When you block IPs used by Leyasu, could you please make a note of it on the page for the arbitration cases where he has been involved? (Misplaced Pages:Requests for arbitration/Leyasu and Misplaced Pages:Requests for arbitration/Deathrocker) It gives us a good, central place to keep a log of the IPs he has been using; the arb cases also specified listing the blocks there. --Idont Havaname (Talk) 04:36, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
