Erdrick, also known as Loto or Roto, is the name given to the hero of Dragon Warrior III, of whom legends speak dropped from the heavens and freed Alefgard from the darkness. The hero hails from the town of Aliahan, and is the son (or daughter) of Ortega, a famous warrior who embarked on a quest to defeat the archfiend Baramos, but fell in the journey. Several of Erdrick's descendants also save the world in Dragon Warrior and Dragon Warrior II. In the original Japanese language games (Dragon Quest), Erdrick is known by the name Roto, which is also used by some import gamers. Another romanization of the name is Loto, which was used when Enix America, Inc. re-released Dragon Warrior I, II, and III on the Game Boy Color. In Dragon Warrior there is a place known as Erdrick's Cave, which holds the tablet that was written by Erdrick after defeating Zoma. There is also a grave for Erdrick in the original Final Fantasy.
