- Articles on topics with strong ties to a particular country should generally use the date format most commonly used in English in that country (if among the acceptable date formats). For the United States this is (for example) July 4, 1976; for most other English-speaking countries it is 4 July 1976.
- If there is more than one commonly used format in that country, either format can be used with (as always) consistency within each article (see Retaining existing format). This is the case for Canada.
