Elections to Liverpool Town Council were held on Saturday 1 November 1879. One third of the council seats were up for election, the term of office of each councillor being three years.

The resignation of Alderman Henry Jennings on 21 October 1880, was reported to the Council on 28 October 1880. Hugh Hawthorne Nicholson was elected as an alderman by the Council on 28 October 1880.
