Doris Ríos is a human rights activist in particular working for the indigenous people in Costa Rica. She was awarded the International Women of Courage Award in 2023.
Life
Ríos is a member of the Cabécar people who are said to be the largest indigenous group in Costa Rica. There are estimated to be 17,000 of them.
The indigenous people are attacked and Ríos has noted that although complaints are made to the authorities little seems to be done. Ríos has won an international award for her work.
