Qader Magsi (Sindhi: ڊاڪٽر قادر مگسي) is a Pakistani politician from the Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party.
Qader Magsi was born on 25 December 1962 in Thatta. He received primary and intermediate education in Thatta. Later he joined Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences Jamshoro L.U.M.H.S) in 1981 for MBBS. In 1982, he became member of Jeay Sindh Students' Federation (JSSF) in LMC unit.
Qader magsi in his early years of politics was known as the symbol of resistance cause of his bravery,in the 80s he was famous for resisting against the martial law of general Zia ul haq. Magsi survived many assassination attempts in one he got severely injured and a very close friend of him known as kamal rahimo died,Magsi later faced numerous charges against him pressed by Zia ul haq for fighting off a terrorist organisation New sindhi students organisation (NSSO) and for leading several protests against Zia’s martial law while he was a student in L.U.M.H.S. In the year 1986 Magsi saw a couple of urdu speaking students being beaten and bullied by a few NSSO member he then with a couple of friends bashed in and fought back and saved urdu speaking students after which the founder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement(MQM) Altaf hussain and his fellow party members came to meet Dr magsi and appreciated him for saving the lives of urdu speaking students in (LUMHS) later MQM showed its true colours and started riots and violent activities against sindhi people and residents of karachi and declared them enemies after which Dr Qader magsi announced that he will declare war against the terrorists who carried the mass murder of thousands of sindhi people in karachi, In those days Magsi was one of the most popular student leader in sindh and was named the symbol of resistance several thousands of students and people drew his sketches and wrote his name on walls with there blood by cutting their thumbs and some wore shirts with his face printed on them.
In 1988 Qadir magsi was held responsible for hyderabad massacre in which hundreds of muhajir people were killed, according to magsi they were the terrorist involved in the brutal killing of 1000+ sindhi’s in karachi. However, he was acquitted of all charges. People after this event started to call him (leader of the war of resistance).
Magsi later established Taraqi Pasand party wing, later Magsi converted Tarqi Pasand Wing into The Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party (STP) on March 21, 1991, he then became the founding chairman of the party.
After the defeat in the 2013 Pakistani general election, seven senior leaders announced their resignation en bloc from the Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party and blamed that Qadir Magsi flawed policies that led to the party's defeat.
Qadir Magsi is widely held responsible for the ethnically motivated murder of more than 1000 Muhajir people in the 1988 Hyderabad massacre. However, he was acquitted of all charges in 2003.
Magsi for united Pakistan
On March 24, 2015, while addressing 24th annual motherland day public meeting in Qasimabad Town, Hyderabad, STPP Chief Dr Magsi urged the Sindhi nationalists to give up demand for secession from Pakistan. He further said: "The breakup of Pakistan will immediately lead to the division of Sindh into many parts. The terrorists employed for this agenda of foreign powers are working on this scheme in Sindh".
Support for Zarb-e-Azb
Magsi has expressed his unwavering support for the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb by Pakistani Army in North Waziristan against the banned terrorist outfits. He demanded a full-scale operation until there were no more terrorists left all over the country.
Magsi and MQM
Qadir has criticized MQM on many occasions. He has accused MQM for propaganda of new province on the agenda of international agents and suggested MQM to shun ethnicity politics.
