In anatomy, a fossa (/ˈfɒsə/; pl.: fossae (/ˈfɒsiː/ or /ˈfɒsaɪ/); from Latin 'ditch, trench') is a depression or hollow, usually in a bone, such as the hypophyseal fossa (the depression in the sphenoid bone). Some examples include:
