Rafael Paciaroni (born April 13, 1987) is a tennis coach from Brazil best known for his work with Brazilian tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia. He played a key role in Haddad Maia's rise to the top 10 of the WTA rankings in both singles and doubles, helping her improve both technically and mentally on the court.

Education

He graduated in Physical education at the Mackenzie Presbyterian University in 2009. During his undergraduate studies, Paciaroni gave tennis lessons at clubs in São Paulo, including the traditional Esporte Clube Pinheiros, and also participated as a volunteer in the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2007.

Career

Paciaroni did not began his career in tennis as a player, as often most tennis coaches did, but soon transitioned into coaching. His involvement in the sport included pursuing technical training, in-depth study of game strategies, and the application of modern training methods.

He has worked with a variety of athletes, developing a coaching style that combines technical and emotional balance, both of which he considers essential for success in the sport.

Paciaroni has served as captain of the Brazilian team in international competitions, including the United Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup. In these roles, he has contributed to the competitive performance of the Brazilian team. Paciaroni's role in the United Cup was recognized for his ability to unite the team and guide them with focus and strategy.

Paciaroni has also been involved in leading training programs for tennis coaches, such as the program held at the Tênis Clube Paulista. At this event, he shared his knowledge of training and athlete development with other coaches.

Work philosophy

Paciaroni believes in creating a long-term plan for his athletes, including technical, physical, and mental development. He describes his relationship with Haddad Maia as a partnership focused on continuous improvement.

He believes that every athlete is unique, and therefore adapts his methods to individual needs. The coach also emphasizes the development of emotional skills, preparing his players to handle the pressures of high-level competitions.

Coaching of Haddad Maia

In September 2020, Paciaroni began coaching Beatriz Haddad Maia. Under his guidance, the player achieved significant results, including winning the doubles title at the WTA 1000 in Madrid and reaching the semifinals of Roland Garros in 2023.

Rafael Paciaroni began working with Beatriz Haddad Maia when she was outside the top 100 in the world rankings. He implemented a training system focused on high-level game patterns and helped her refine her technique in key strokes such as serve and return.

In 2023, Paciaroni planned specific training sessions for Haddad Maia with Gustavo Kuerten (Guga).

Since the start of the 2025 tennis season, Paciaroni shares the duties of being Haddad Maia's coach alongside the French tennis coach Maxime Tchoutakian.

Under Rafael Paciaroni's guidance, Beatriz Haddad Maia reached the top 10 in the world tennis ranking in singles, as well as in doubles.

The partnership between Paciaroni and Haddad Maia faced public criticism at times. However, the Brazilian tennis player consistently defended her coach, emphasizing his technical expertise and the importance of his work in her career development. In 2023, Haddad Maia even addressed rumors about her relationship with the coach, stating that her focus was solely on the sport.

Personal life

Paciaroni maintains a close relationship with his athletes and often participates in tennis development events, such as coaching conferences and training programs.

Influence on Brazilian Tennis

Paciaroni believes that Beatriz Haddad Maia's success can boost tennis in Brazil, creating a solid foundation for the development of new talents in the country. He emphasized that Haddad Maia's results on the world circuit can serve as a source of inspiration for young Brazilian athletes and elevate the level of national tennis.

Rafael Paciaroni is recognized for his contribution to Brazilian tennis and for elevating Beatriz Haddad Maia's level, helping to raise the profile of Brazilian tennis on the international stage.
