Rahim Taghizadegan (1979) is an Austrian-Iranian economist and publicist. He is a representative of the Austrian School in economics. Taghizadegan heads the private educational institution Scholarium in Zug, Switzerland (previously in Vienna until 2024).
Life
Taghizadegan's father is Iranian and his mother from Vienna. He studied physics, economics, and sociology in Vienna and Lausanne. During his study trips to the USA, he attended seminars by Vernon L. Smith and Israel M. Kirzner. He held teaching positions at the University of Liechtenstein, the Vienna University of Economics and Business, and the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. He is currently a research assistant at the International Academy of Philosophy in Liechtenstein and teaches at the IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems.
Taghizadegan studied with Roland Baader, who was himself a student of Friedrich August von Hayek, who bequeathed to him Hayek's extensive library on the Austrian School. This Roland-Baader-Bibliothek is now publicly accessible at the Scholarium. In 2015, Taghizadegan accepted the Hayek Medal on behalf of Roland Baader and was himself honored with the Roland Baader Award in 2017. Additionally, Taghizadegan considers himself a student of Hans-Hermann Hoppe and has been one of the main speakers at Hoppe's annual Property and Freedom Society since its inception.
Taghizadegan worked as a "Research Fellow" at the Atlas Network in the USA and in space research at the European Space Operations Centre, the US Naval Observatory, and the Astronomical Institute. He provided free economics lessons in impoverished neighborhoods in South Africa.
Taghizadegan has written contributions for, among others, Santiago Times, eigentümlich frei, Wiener Zeitung and Der Standard. He is a regular columnist for Finanz und Wirtschaft and a frequent author in Wirtschaftswoche.
