American neurobiologist and editor of SLEEP

Ronald Szymusiak is a professor at UCLA, where he researches sleep and Alzheimer's disease. Szymusiak is the editor-in-chief of SLEEP sleep medicine journal.

Szymusiak obtained his Ph.D. in biological psychology from the University of Illinois in 1982 and did his postdoctoral training in neurobiology. In the years 2017-2018 and 2021-2023, he received a Veterans Affairs Research Career Scientist Award. He is a professor at the school of medicine at UCLA. He has worked on sleep disorders and contributed to the understanding of the REMNon-REM Sleep Cycle, hypothalamic control of sleep homeostasis, sleep suppression, and the impact of various factors, such as corticotropin-releasing factor, on sleep.
