ROSHN Stadium (Arabic: ملعب روشن, romanized: maleabʿ al-Rushin) is a multi-purpose stadium in south-west Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It is set to be a venue for the 2034 FIFA World Cup and has a proposed capacity of 46,000 people, where it will host fixtures in the group stage and round of 32.
The stadium is named after Public Investment Fund owned real estate development company ROSHN who will own and operate the stadium when opened.
Description
Construction
Construction on the stadium will begin in 2029 and its opening will take place in 2032.
The saddle-shaped seating bowl and envelope are designed to maximize spectator comfort, with varying stand heights that provide shading and cross-ventilation. The bowl’s parabolic geometry will also amplify sound, creating an immersive, celebratory atmosphere. Located in southwest Riyadh, the stadium is optimized for major football events but aims to become the centerpiece of the neighborhood, offering a unique experience compared to typical sports venues. Designed to integrate seamlessly into the urban fabric, the stadium will encourage the community to explore and interact with the space. It will be situated in a central plaza, encircled by the “crystalline” structure of the bowl, a delicate lattice that will illuminate the night sky.
Post-2034
After the World Cup, the stadium will serve as the heart of a walkable community featuring green spaces, public squares, and a variety of amenities, fostering a lifestyle centered around cultural activities and social connections. The precinct, initially designed to meet FIFA’s tournament requirements, will later be transformed into a vibrant hub with retail, dining, entertainment, hospitality, and office spaces. This transformation will form the foundation of the future legacy of the events and the surrounding neighborhood. Additionally, the area will offer mixed-use sports facilities, educational spaces, and host major tournaments, large events, and concerts.
