Tabriz County (Persian: شهرستان تبریز) is in East Azerbaijan Province, Iran. Its capital is the city of Tabriz.

History

After the 2016 National Census, the new city of Shahr-e Jadid-e Shahriar was created. The villages of Esfahlan and Lahijan were elevated to city status.

In 2021, Mehranrud Rural District was created in the Central District, and Meydan Chay Rural District and the city of Basmenj were separated from it in the formation of Basmenj District.

Demographics

Population

At the time of the 2006 census, the county's population was 1,557,241 in 423,775 households. The following census in 2011 counted 1,695,094 people in 513,142 households. The 2016 census measured the population of the county as 1,773,033 in 563,660 households.
