Ōnan, ShimaneOhnan, Shimane – The official English spelling of the town's name is Ohnan, with an h and no macron. Please see the town's official webpage and town's tourism website listed in the external links for reference. Ohnantown (talk) 05:38, 11 January 2017 (UTC)

Japan Times hasn't changed its romanization system in the last two years. All other websites use same as Japan Times. Incidentally the second website above is only in Japanese, no English. In ictu oculi (talk) 10:56, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
Ohnan spelling on town hall website is at the bottom by the copyright (official gov. website). The town government, and organizations in direct contact with the town (the town's own tourist org., university partnerships, etc.), have the H spelling. See below.

  • Oppose for now per WP:OFFICIALNAME. Just because the city and a few other sources prefer the "Oh..." spelling doesn't mean WP has to adopt it. WP:COMMONNAME is the controlling policy here; a case would have to be clearly demonstrated that "Ohnan" has become the common spelling in a preponderance of English-language sources, and this has not been shown (I have no opinion on whether it could be shown; do the research before opening an RM).  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ⱷ҅ⱷ≼  02:34, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
That makes sense. Although websites such as Google Maps, Bing Maps, TripAdvisor, Instagram, Facebook, Rakuten, etc. often automatically adopt title information directly from WP. What happens in this case? Where the title listed on WP is a significant source contributing to the common name?fala nippon (talk) 06:32, 13 January 2017 (UTC)
