Other than "cover versions", WP:SONGCOVER clearly calls these types of recordings "renditions" which is what this is - "(Is This the Way to) The World Cup" is a new rendition of "(Is This the Way to) Amarillo". It's the same song, sung by the same artist, but the only difference is the lyrics, sung exactly in the same tune to the original. It is a re-recording or new rendition of the original. That's why it should have its own section in the original version's article (as well as it also being notable having charted in the UK top 10). All notable new renditions or re-recordings of so many other songs by the same artist also have their own sections in the articles of the original here on Misplaced Pages. To my understanding, "rendition" means performance which would seem to indicate an individual performance. Under WP:NSONG it says that songs that chart are notable for a standalone article. Also, we should be mindful of WP:UNDUE, because shoehorning a full article which was only in public consciousness for about 3 weeks in 2006 places undue weight onto the Amarillo article when you had the Christie original, the Sakada and Comic Relief of the same single which had far more of an impact whereas this was completely different lyrically. It's just a new rendition of the same song sung by the same artist. If a different artist sang it even with the different lyrics, then it would be a cover version. If an artist records a different version of the same song (even with different instrumentation / altered or different lyrics), it's not a cover version - that is called a re-recording or alternate version, which is what this is. But this version has the exact same instrumentation and structure as the original, only with different lyrics and sung exactly in the same tune as the original. Songs that chart are notable for a standalone article - but that's not for new versions or renditions of an earlier original version by the same artist, which should have its own section in the original version's article only if notable enough - plus the content in "(Is This the Way to) The World Cup" is small anyway.
