Why do most companies register under .co.jp? For example, http://www.bandai.co.jp exists, but http://www.bandai.jp (nicer) does not exist. --Abdull 21:43, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
- Until recently the .jp was unavailibe. .co.jp developed a loyalty and remains exclusive. 68.148.123.76 (talk) 08:17, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- The above is in error. Reading right-to-left is the interpretation: depending upon registration an optional country cTLD like .us, .uk, .fr, then either the 3-character type, or it’s 2-character abbreviation when cTLD is used: .com - commercial, .org - organization, .gov - government, then the actual unique domain name: google, yahoo, microsoft, and finally an optional further division or sub-domain name: www. - generic World-Wide-Web, news. - current events, search. - lookup, or other custom notion relevant to the website. The same reason .com is popular
its has solid reputation sort of business standard.Besides top level domains which signify country are not always judged just as such. See .tv
- NOT a case of popularity. Simply a designation of category: .com - commercial, .net - network, .org - organization, .gov - government. WurmWoode 23:27, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
