After the success of her first album, Nada-Nada Cinta (1996), Rossa reentered the Indonesian music industry with her second album, Tegar, which was released on November 25, 1999. The main single on this album, titled Tegar and created by Melly Goeslaw, was later used as the soundtrack for the soap opera Suami, Istri, dan Dia, directed by Putu Wijaya and produced by Star Vision for broadcast on RCTI.
Not only was this album successful domestically, but it was also released in Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, and Japan in 2000 by BMG Music Malaysia. Rossa also represented Indonesia at the My Love music festival, held from October 26 to 29, 2000, in Hanoi, Vietnam. The second single from this album, "Biarkan Cinta Itu Ada," was also used as the soundtrack for the soap opera Tersayang in Brunei Darussalam in 2000.
