The Ptil Tekhelet association is an Israeli association working to renew the mitzvah of Tekhelet and spread the mitzvah in Israel and around the world. The head of the association is Dr. Baruch Sterman.
History
The association was established in the early nineties by Rabbi Eliyahu Tavger, Dr. Baruch Sterman, Dr. Ari Greenspan and Joel Guberman in order to promote the mitzvah of Tekhelet. Initially, the founders of the association produced Tekhelet strings at home. Later, the production processes were upgraded and the factory was established, and since then the association has been producing Tekhelet strings according to Rabbi Tavger's method, and promoting various educational and community projects.
Areas of activity
The association focuses on two main areas of activity: the first is the production and sale of Tekhelet strings, including the tying of Talitot and Tzitzit with Tekhelet in a factory in Kfar Adumim, a practical study of ways to improve the production of Tekhelet today, and a practical study of the production of Tekhelet in ancient times; The second field is educational and community projects, including the operation of a physical and online visitor center, the publication of the "ונתנו על ציצית הכנף" pamphlet and its distribution, the organization of the "Shabbat Tekhelet" initiative in communities in Israel and around the world on the Shabbat of Parshat Shlach, and the establishment of an educational resource pool on the subject of Tekhelet and its accessibility to the general public as part of the association’s website, including the translation of articles from English and the production of explanatory videos about Tekhelet and how to tie it.
