Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin (Template:Lang-ar; 6) (March 1915 – 17 January 2014) was 52nd Da'i al-Mutlaq of Dawoodi Bohras, a subgroup within the Mustaali, Ismaili Shia branch of Islam. Buhranuddin was appointed 52nd Da'i al-Mutlaq at the age of 52, in 1967.
Burhanuddin was presented highest national civic honor by the presidents of Egypt and Jordan. The Mayor of Houston has announced 8 August 1986 as "His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Day". He was the first Dai al Mutlaq to visit Europe and America.
According to Tabular Islamic calendar Mohammed Burhanuddin at age of 102 (20 Raby al-THaany 1333 A.H. - 15 Raby` al-Awwal 1435 A.H.) was the longest living Dai al Mutalq.
Early life
Burhanuddin was born to Syedna Taher Saifuddin and Aaisaheba Husaina Aaisaheba in Surat in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is said that, he survived a car accident at the age of twelve in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He was educated by his father, Syedna Tahir Saifuddin.
Activities
In October 1999, Burhanuddin was elected Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University. He is credited with expanding a two century old Arabic university Al Jamea tus Saifiyah, introducing state-of-the-art facilities and making it world-wide acceptable as an International Baccalaureate Office. In 1983, a new campus of "Al Jamea tus Saifiyah" was built in Karachi by him. He built "Burhaniyah Business Counselling Centre" in Mumbai to provide modern business solutions. He built Raudat Tahera, a mausoleum of his father Taher Saifuddin in Mumbai, India. It is unique of its kind for having entire Quran inscribed on its inner white walls in letters of gold and precious stones.
Burhanuddin has also initiated and involved with several notable Islamic projects including:
- The repair and renovation of the Aqmar Mosque, Lulua Mosque and Juyushi Mosque in Egypt.
- The gold plating/renovation of Zarih of the Shiah Imam Ali, Najaf and Imam Husayn & Maulana Abbas e Alamdaar, Karbala.
- The 'The Makhallifat-al-Rasool' (next to Rasul Hussain, Imam Husain Masjid, Cairo), where some of the Fatimid Imams are buried.
- The construction of Rasul Husayn, Maulatena Zaynab bint Ali and Sayyeda Ruqayya's Zarih at Cairo, Egypt and Ja'far at-Tayyar's Zarih, Jordan.

Death
Syedna Burhanuddin died of cardiac attack at his home Saifee Mahal in Mumbai on 17 January 2014. The Bohra community announced a 40 day mourning period in respect of the departed leader. He was buried at Raudat Tahera Mausoleum in Bhendi Bazar, Mumbai beside his father Tahir Saifuddin. His second son Mufaddal Saifuddin led the "Namaz-e-Janaza" (funeral procession) of his father at the Saifee Mosque.
