:According to WP:RS, there are no "accurate" and "non-accurate" sources. There are only "reliable" sources. Hence, we always go according to reliable sources, and if they show several versions then all versions are described. Regarding Arabic - it is possible, but not desirable to use Arabic in English wikipedia. The guideline is to use another language if English sources are not sufficient (which is not the case here).] (]) 14:44, 13 January 2012 (UTC)

Hello there! First of all, I must say the pictures you have on your user page are really nice. :) ] suggested I talk with you about ] since you have considerable contributions to the subject. I wrote him about the request he made there a while ago to move the page to ]. Unfortunately (to my opinion) this move didn't take place, and during the discussions there were some misconcenptions. My grandparents are Jews of Kurdistan area. Their native tongue is Aramaic (specifically, ], which is a Jewish Neo-Aramaic North-Eastern dialect). Kurdish was just one the languages they spoke as a foreign language, like Arabic. This is the case with all of the Jews from Kurdistan area I know (from my family and others). I can see two sources of confusion: 1. In Israel, Jews from that area are called in Hebrew "Kurdim", to distinguish them from Jews from other areas. Therefore their language is referred to in Israel as "Kurdit", but it is NOT the ] language spoken by the Muslims of the area. It is a dialect of ]. 2. Second source of confusion might be that ALL Jews, from all areas, use a totally different and ancient dialect of Aramaic for liturgical/religious purposes. This is shared by all Jews, and has nothing to do with the fact that Jews from Kurdistan area speak a modern dialect of Aramaic as their Native tongue; Since Jews of Kurdistan don't share the language with the Kurds, but speak Aramaic dialects (which are actually close to the Aramaic dialects spoken by the Christians of the area), I find the title "Jews of Kurdistan" more appropriate than "Kurdish Jews". I would be glad to hear what you think about it. Thank you very much. :) P.S. - I saw some Hebrew on your user page, do you speak Hebrew? :) ] (]) 03:13, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
Please inform all editors that contributed to this article and its talk page. ] (]) 19:15, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
:Regarding the pics - it is just a collection, not mine. Regarding Jewish denominations - there is no common way to name the Jewish communities today. There are many identity "layers" and hence much confusion. The ancient Jewish communities were largely "Judeans" (Israeli Jews) and "Babylonian Jews", but in the Middle Ages the three mainstream new denominations appeared - Jews of Lower Germania ("Ashkenazi Jews"), Jews of Spain ("Sephardic Jews") and Jews of Persia and Mesopotamia ("Persian Jews"), with less significant communities in Yemen, Egypt, Caucasus. Over 16th-20th centuries the diaspora became so wide that new identities were created like the "Russian Jews", the "Iraqi Jews", "British Jews" and even "American Jews". However, recently the largest portion Jews are once again defined as "Israeli Jews". If you find "Jews of Kurdistan" better term than "Kurdish Jews" - that's not really counting per wiki guidelines, since you have to bring reliable sources (not including yourself). If you find enough reliable sources to change the WP:COMMONNAME "Kurdish Jews", then please - propose the rename once again, i will read and decide if to support you or not. Disclamer: i don't have any personal feelings on this, so i promise to be as objective as i can. Last time the analysis turned out that "Kurdish Jews" is a more utilized term, but as Rafy proposed Kurdish Jews were removed from articles on Kurdish population as ethnically non-Kurdish.] (]) 17:51, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
:BTW, if you are interested in Kurdish Jews (Jews of Kurdistan), you might find t interesting to help me to impove the ] article.] (]) 17:51, 25 February 2012 (UTC) :{{replyto|Fitzcarmalan}} I tagged all talkpage contributors, i will notify active editors as well.] (]) 19:17, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Hello again,<br>
:: Thank you very much for your reply! :) I don't understand what kind of reliable sources I need to find for Jews of Kurdistan, this is a rather delicate issue and I'm not sure what kind of sources can be for this. You mean places where the phrase "Jews of Kurdistan" has been utilized? Anyway, I think using the term Kurdish Jews requires sources as well, because if you want to call a non-Kurdish speaking community Kurdish, you really need a source for that. By Saying "Jews of Kurdistan" you only say they resided in Kurdistan area, which is well-known. By saying "Kurdish Jews" you say they are Kurdish, so those who claim they are Kurdish should bring sources for that, especially since this community doesn't speak Kurdish but speaks Aramaic. I invite you to Zikhron Yossef neighbourhood in Jerusalem to hear the language for yourself. ;) About ], I'll look at it. And thanks for your attention! :) ] (]) 18:05, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
An article's deletion following an AfD nomination occurs when the majority of votes are in favor of deletion, or does it depend on the points given in the discussion? In another sense, should i focus on discussing the deletion or should i rather work on improving the article? Because i recall where the tag you placed said "consider improving the article so that it is acceptable according to the deletion policy" before you switched it to the current tag. What should i do in this case? Regards. ] (]) 07:01, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
:::Reliable sources are academic sources about Jews in Kurdistan, according to my readings - most useful term is "Kurdish Jews" - we discussed it on the talk page there. Perhaps you are not aware, but ] are not etnically Italian, ] and ] are not very much connected with modern Syrians and Iraqis (mostly Arabs) and ] are not related to native Americans. It is largely a territorial / national definition, not ethnic - of course Jews are an ethnicity, rather than religion (ethnoreligion more precise). Specifically egarding Kurdish Jews then historically those communities (incl. you) are less related to ethnic Kurds (inhabitans of the Talmudic "Karda") than ethnic Israelites (inhabitans of the ancient "Aram" and "Canaan").] (]) 20:06, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
:I would also appreciate it if you joined the debate you opened. ] (]) 11:16, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
:::: I know what reliable sources are. I was asking what kind of proof you expect to find there, that would incline us to use "Jews of Kurdistan" instead of "Kurdish Jews"; And yes, I know Jews are an ethnicity, this is EXACTLY why I wanted to change the name of the article, because now its name suggests Kurdish ethnic identity. You can see that ] redirects to ], ] to ], ] to ] etc etc (there are plenty of other examples). Perhaps ] should redirect to ], like those other pages, and this way it would reflect that the connection of those Jews to Kurdistan is by residence, and not by ethnicity - exactly as you wrote. ] (]) 20:13, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
:{{replyto|Fitzcarmalan}} sorry for late response. It is usually important to gain a numeric majority, but quality of votes also counts. IPs are the least important and the more experienced editors give qualified reasons, the higher is the chance to approve/decline a proposal. The article is currently in AfD, but you can try to improve it, as long as you don't change the topic.] (]) 22:21, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
:::::It will be rather surprising for you to discover how many Iraqis, Turks, Assyrians and Iranians would oppose your idea to create/rename a page "History of Jews in Kurdistan", trying to merge it into "History of Jews in Turkey", "History of Jews in Iran" and "History of Jews in Iraq", or rename it to "History of Jews in Assyria". Be careful of going deep into those politic issues, the Middle East is a boiling pot. Take a look at ] and ], there is no problem having both articles (one on the community and one on specific history in Italy), same as ] and ]. In my opinion, you may create ] (which will include the community's history in Kurdish areas) in addition to ] (both history in Kurdish areas and in Israel), but be aware of the politics. B'hazlakha.] (]) 20:25, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
::::::Akh yakar, I see you don't understand what I wrote, or maybe I wasn't clear enough. I don't have an "idea" to create or rename those pages, it's ALREADY this way. ] is ALREADY a redirect link to ], and the same goes to the other examples I gave, and many others; Anyway, I think I'm going to give up. I didn't want to fight with anybody, just wanted to make sure Misplaced Pages reflects the fact that Jews of Kurdistan are not ethnically ]. But it seems impossible to make it happen. As a Jew from Kurdistan myself, I find it sad. ] (]) 20:35, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
:::::::Ben, Misplaced Pages is a mess, just the fact there is a redirect doesn't mean there was a page like that (] in the past. It just means that there probably was no one to make the ] page. I gave you other examples where 2 articles exist. BTW, by saying you are a "Jew from Kurdistan" do you mean you were born in Kurdistan? I assume not.] (]) 20:51, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
:::::::: I can see the mess. I'm used to Hebrew Misplaced Pages where things are more clear when it comes to these things, I think; I was born in Jerusalem (where most of Jews from Kurdistan live today), my grandparents were born in Kurdistan. ] (]) 20:55, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
::::::::: Thought so, but the fact you were born in Jerusalem will make your definition as "Jew of Kurdistan" quiet problematic you see. "Jew of Kurdish background" makes more sense, same as "Sephardic background" or "Ashkenasi background". Anyway, in Israel those denominations will be lost within a generation or two, just like the tribal "shvatim" definitions were once lost after return from Babylon in 5th century BCE (aside Samaritans and Levites).] (]) 21:28, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
:::::::::: Whatever. In Israel we still denote the original backgroud to people of 2nd and 3rd generation too. People do say they're "marokai", "iraki", "kurdi", "teimani", "polani", "romani" even if it's their grandparents who were born there. But honestly I don't see where you're going with this. I am not telling you how to see yourself so I appreciate it if you don't tell me how to see myself; My only intention in this discussion was to make sure that Misplaced Pages reflects the fact that the Jews of that area (and you can call them whatever you want) are ethnically Jews and not Kurdish. And to correct the mistake people made in the talk page, as if those Jews speak Kurdish. ] (]) 22:30, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

The purpose of my original suggestion was to provide a way of avoiding getting involved in an edit war. So long as we're only participating on the talk page and not in editing the article, we're not going to become involved in anything like that. Thoughts? <span style="font-family: Perpetua, serif; font-size:120%">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;←&nbsp;&nbsp;]&nbsp;&nbsp;</span> 14:21, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

I thank you for your warning. Yes, I tried to reach a consensus via discussion on the talk page, and most editors, except that one, agreed to it. And yes we entered into an edit war all the while while I was trying to find a solution to the problem and trying to point to him the policy on unreliable sources and POV pushing. In the end I gave up because I found the other editor to be uncompromising. So, I've given up on the issue, hoping some other editor or administrator would be able to make that editor listen to reason and follow Misplaced Pages policy. And I am not going to be involved in the dispute any longer. I apologise if my actions caused trouble and will be more careful in the future to not let the situation get out of hand as it did. Once again, I apologise! ] (]) 22:22, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

The POV issue hasn't been addressed yet because ] never explained why the tag is there and thinks it is easy to tag an article without any explanation and leave the editors wondering for maybe decades what could possibly be wrong. The POV fork issue and the naming issue have been addressed in the AfD discussion and in the move request respectively. I kept asking Lihaas what was the tag about and eventually told him after noticing his unwillingness to discuss that i would remove it if he keeps ignoring my comments. He took this as a threat (even though i did not intend to threaten and i'm sure he knew that) and he told me that the reason why it's there is because it is a POV fork, and like i said, this was already discussed in AfD.</br>
Lihaas keeps insisting on the POV fork claim using only one argument: ''"revolutions need institutional changes"'' → Isn't that what happened? I mentioned Lihaas so he could discuss this in the article's talk page but he ignored my entries (again). I'm not trying to look like the bad guy here, but it's not the editors' fault if someone adds a tag without a clear explanation and i'm shocked that this kind of behavior comes from an experienced editor such as Lihaas. Even though both articles discuss <u>completely different</u> subjects, i think the reason behind all of this is because the it was created 8 months after the events took place, but with all honesty, do you find that relevant to the discussion?</br>
I also don't want to impose a ] here, but if a tag is necessary (though i don't think any is), then only one should be there. ] (]) 16:57, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

Hey. Regarding your recent changes to the passage on Porath's opinion, I think the changes are generally warranted. There are a couple of points I take issue with. I think Porath's acknowledgement of the merely "superficial" similarity is important to his argument. Also Porath states "their ideological and historical significance is entirely different." which I think justifies the original language "arguing that the ideological and historical significance of the two population movements are totally different". Your rational for these two particular changes is unclear from your edit summary so I plan to amend the passage to address these two points of your edit, which I believe are important to accurately reflect Porath's opinion per RS. If you are unhappy with my changes I am happy to discuss further on the talk pages. ] (]) 22:09, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

My Dutch isn't any better than google translate, but it seems to be placing the trouble in Jaffa, not in Tripoli (though I can be misreading it). Anyway it was definitely not in Safed since that city is not mentioned in the whole article. I don't see "resident Egyptians" there either; the perpetrators are identified as Turks. Question. Would you agree with this discussion? We close the Battle of Zinjibar article as ending in September 2011 with an Al Qaeda victory. To have the Israeli occupied part of Syria in white and the infobox exactly as I had edited the article. --] (]) 04:20, 29 August 2014 (UTC)
Hello: having worked on Angola for more than four decades, I have over the last two years or so tried to improve articles on Angola in WP (several languages). I was thus delighted to see your recent work on the en:WP article on the Angolan Civil War, which is a period I have somewhat neglected with regard to the military side. I wonder whether we can agree on the following points:
:What you did is a complete violation of community consensus from June 2013 and on the pages of Syrian Civil War. Please refer to discussion on ].] (]) 17:22, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
# The civil war in Angola ran from 1975 to 2002. The war for independence stopped effectively in April 1974, although a formal peace agreement was signed in January 1975 only. What I call the "decolonization conflict" is the fight between the nationalist movements & allies from April 1974 to November 1975 (independence). This conflict becomes a civil war after independence. Civil war can be divided in two periods: until 1991 (Cuban and South African military involvement) and 1991-2002 (external support only). I think this periodization is important, because it permits to specify the participation of other countries.
::Where is the community consensus saying that a map showing the "current military situation in Syria" cant show that Israel is occupying the Golan heights? According to the discussion at: https://en.wikipedia.org/Talk:Syrian_Kurdistan#Military_map_issues there is clear consensus that the Israeli-occupied Golan heights is to be shown in white and the Israeli occupation separated from the belligerents with a dotted line. The discussion you opened at Syrian civil war talkpage falsely misrepresents my position that I want Israel as a belligerent on Syrian Civil War maps. You also sent messages to a large group of editors misrepresenting my position. I haven't added Israel as a belligerent, and no one else has added that. Therefore the outcome in the discussion you opened is not valid in regards to this edit:, because they are not connected in any way. --] (]) 13:39, 31 August 2014 (UTC)
# There was direct participation of Cuba and SA in the fighting in 1974/75 as well as in 1975-1991.
:::This is a map of Syrian civil war, not a map of Syrian Arab Republic (which practically reduced to several governorates in the West of former Syria).] (]) 18:36, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
# I have never heard of the involvement of French & Morroccan troops: what are your sources?
# The support of the Soviet Union consisted of air transport for Cuban troops, furnishing military equipment, and a few advisors, mostly in 1974/75, less in 1975-1991.
# Zaire supported the FNLA (logistics, equipment) and (small) contingents of troops, mainly in 1974/75, less so in 1975-1991 (when, as far as I know, the FNLA ceased it military activity as early as 1976/77)
# The US gave UNITA logistical, material and diplomatic support 1975-1991.
# China gave the FNLA some (unspecified) support in the early 1960s, and shifted this support (which then included military training in China for come cadres) to UNITA after 1966. This is uncontested : see e.g. John Marcum's book.
# Algeria supported the MPLA 1961-1974, mainly by hosting a pivotal group of MPLA exile cadres. I don't know about any further support.
# I don't have any sources on Libyan involvement.
# I am quite surprised at you mentioning the FNLC: what are the sources?
# Gabon and Côte d'Ivoire: I don't have sources, either.
# Mozambique: the FRELIMO regime has given "fraternal" moral and diplomatic support to the MPLA from the 1960s onwards, but as far as I know, there was no military involvement (so much the less as there was a civil war going on in Mozambique as well).

Do you think you could answer to all this, on this page? Thank you in advance -- ] (]) 13:26, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
:Frankly, i'm no expert onm Angola, and nor Angola is the focal point of my editor interests; thank you however for your gratitude over my work there. I've stumbled upon the article when ] gave the Angolan civil war as an example of how to list belligerents, which totally flustrated me, as it the Angolan civil war article infobox had been a completely unsourced mess. Therefore, i decided to fix it as a one time editor effort. Regarding your points:
::# I don't contest the timing of the conflict; ''Answer Aflis: ok''
::# Cuba and SA made direct participation in the conflict, but the source i found lists them as "supporters" to each of the sides. It is somehow semantic whether we list them as direct belligerents or supporters (i don't care). ''Answer Aflis: In fact "supporter" has various meanings, and so does "belligerent". For me, the latter implies combat troops, the former doesn't - which means there is a fundamental difference.''
::# French and Moroccan troops, as well as FNLC participated in ] and ], however i'm not sure whether Shaba battles were part of the Angolan civil war or just a satellite conflict. ''Answer Aflis: A significant contingent of "Gendarmes katangais" passed into Angola and ended up fighting for the MPLA. As far as I know, this was the only repercussion of the Shaba Wars in Angola.''
::#Soviet Union is listed by WP:RS as a major supporting power in the conflict. In addition, the infobox lists that it had deployed troops and sustained casualties- i have not checked the sources however. ''Answer Aflis: From all I know through Angolan and Cuban sources, there were no Soviet combat troops in Angola, just a number of "military advisers" (some of whom may, of course, have died).''
::# Zaire - as well a supporting party in the conflict. ''Answer Aflis: ok''
::# US gave a significant collteral support, the question is whether it was exceptional to list it, considering it brought no troops on the ground. I tend to accept the stance of Perez de Cuellar on this. ''Answer Aflis: One can compare the role of the US to that of the the URSS: there were a number of CIA "operatives" on the ground in Angola.''
::# China's support (if existed) was not significant and therefor not WP:DUE. ''Answer Aflis: China's support was decisive for launching UNITA whose leader, Savimbi, got training in, and material support from, China in the sixties. Sources listed in John Marcum, "The Angolan Revolution" (a work that constituted a fundamental reference).''
::# no sources on involvement of Algeria through the conflict (1975 on). ''Answer Aflis: ok''
::# Libyan involvement is unsourced. ''Answer Aflis: ok''
::# FNLC was involved in Shaba (see above). ''Answer Aflis: ok''
::#Gabon and Cote d'voir - unsourced. ''Answer Aflis: ok. NB: Its "Côte d'Ivoire"!''
::#Mazimbique - i had no info on that, so considering your knowlege, it should as well be removed. ''Answer Aflis: ok''
:Hope it clarifies.] (]) 14:33, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

==Kurdish-Iraqi conflict==
The reason I created the article "Kurdish-Iraqi War" in the first place was because actually the Second Kurdish-Iraqi War was not from April 1974-Mid 1975 but from April 1974 to October 1991. In fact, basically the both the first and second kurdish iraqi war were in fact one long conflict with a few short lived cease-fires. Therefore an article was needed to cover the war in it's entirety. When you chose to re-name the article as "Kurdish-Iraqi conflict" I assumed this was just a harmless name change, maybe to make it more NPOV or uncontroversial, since people often prefer the term "conflict" over "war" in case of insurgency related articles. However, I see you have used this name-change to recently change the entire concept of the article about the history of Kurds in Iraq including all kinds of old revolts completely unrelated to this war that was started by Mullah Mustafa and continued by his son and Jalal Talabani. I do not think these changes should have been made and we should discuss how to adress this issue.] (]) 20:59, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Hello Greyshark, I just reverted your changes to the Governorates of the PA template. These sort of changes, where we're splitting the Palestinian territories into two distinct entities are controversial moves and, like the Palestinian Cities subject area, need to be discussed first. As I stated before, this is not a North/South Korea situation, there's no international recognition of two Palestinian entities (only one), the two entities are not completely separated, there are agreements set in place regarding the reunification of the two governments, etc. Furthermore, readers who land on the ] page for instance should be able to navigate to ] without having to make a separate search for it. In any case, this should be discussed before we make sweeping changes throughout the topic area. --] (]) 19:43, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
:::Of course, since you object WP:Snowball is not relevant any more. However despite what you have just said, PA and GA are "currently" negotiating for already 5 years. You seam to be making a habit of changing "Palestinian territories" to "Palestinian Authority". The terms are not the same. Notice of Edit warring noticeboard discussion

Information icon Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion involving you at Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring regarding a possible violation of Misplaced Pages's policy on edit warring. Thank you.

Discretionary sanctions notification

The Arbitration Committee has permitted administrators to impose discretionary sanctions (information on which is at Misplaced Pages:Arbitration Committee/Discretionary sanctions) on any editor who is active on pages broadly related to the Arab-Israeli conflict. Discretionary sanctions can be used against an editor who repeatedly or seriously fails to adhere to the purpose of Misplaced Pages, satisfy any standard of behavior, or follow any normal editorial process. If you inappropriately edit pages relating to this topic, you may be placed under sanctions, which can include blocks, a revert limitation, or an article ban. The Committee's full decision can be read at the "Final decision" section of the decision page.

Please familiarise yourself with the information page at Misplaced Pages:Arbitration Committee/Discretionary sanctions, with the appropriate sections of Misplaced Pages:Arbitration Committee/Procedures, and with the case decision page before making any further edits to the pages in question. This notice is given by an uninvolved administrator and will be logged on the case decision, pursuant to the conditions of the Arbitration Committee's discretionary sanctions system.

Editing warring over a long period of time, such as you have at Jewish exodus from Arab and Muslim countries, will result in sanctions if it continues. Please discuss the issue on the talk page until there is a consensus version rather than revert each other. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 12:18, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

You made a good Recommendation for the "Etymology of Palestine" on Timeline of the name "Palestine"

  1. Please don't be mislead by people who tell you false definitions of words. etymology -- A history of a word
  2. https://en.wikipedia.org/Talk:Timeline_of_the_name_%22Palestine%22#Article_title
  3. I recommend installing a free dictionary http://wordweb.info/ for the next time somesome suggests your understanding is in error. A desktop "American Heritage Dictionary" is the Best English Dictionary I own. Oxford English Dictionary (OED) costs quite a bit more and is the only Superior option.
  4. Additionally you may be correct about "" in article names. I have not found out. But it makes copying web addresses very ugly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DigDeep4Truth (talkcontribs) 08:36, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

Jewish exodus from Arab and Muslim countries

Hi Greyshark09, are you still willing to work with Oncenawhile on this article? Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 10:19, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

Dear @Callanec: I think you were greatly misled by Once on this issue. This is a curious semi-successful attempt to force minority view upon majority by strong wikilawyering. Once by the way knows me and my editing style very well, including a successful cooperation on Mandatory Palestine article (here) and semi-successful cooperation on the Kingdom of Iraq (here). I am herewith confident Once knows well that i don't edit wikipedia frequently and i don't tend to edit-war (except trolls and socks) and for some reason used my infrequent editing to bully against me as a "refusal to cooperate" in parallel with his aggressive editing (even though also reverted by 3 other users). Though i'm very active on Middle East refugee topics (i created Syrian refugees, Kurdish refugees, Expulsion of Egyptian Jews (1956) and Assyrian exodus from Iraq), i don't see any reason for myself to engage in any kind of dispute on Arbpia articles, thus i'm sanctioning myself for 1 year article ban on Jewish exodus from Arab and Muslim countries (same as i did on Mandatory Palestine in similar circumstances). I call Once to do the same and cool off. Cheers.GreyShark (dibra) 18:40, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

Hello again,
An article's deletion following an AfD nomination occurs when the majority of votes are in favor of deletion, or does it depend on the points given in the discussion? In another sense, should i focus on discussing the deletion or should i rather work on improving the article? Because i recall this where the tag you placed said "consider improving the article so that it is acceptable according to the deletion policy" before you switched it to the current tag. What should i do in this case? Regards. Fitzcarmalan (talk) 07:01, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

I would also appreciate it if you joined the debate you opened. Fitzcarmalan (talk) 11:16, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
@Fitzcarmalan: sorry for late response. It is usually important to gain a numeric majority, but quality of votes also counts. IPs are the least important and the more experienced editors give qualified reasons, the higher is the chance to approve/decline a proposal. The article is currently in AfD, but you can try to improve it, as long as you don't change the topic.GreyShark (dibra) 22:21, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

Centuries in Lebanon

Re your comments re "modern Lebanon" being post-1946 on the category I created in 2010 Category:19th century in Lebanon, the Category:Centuries in Lebanon goes back to the 12th century in Lebanon with Lebanon in fact having a pre-20th century history; and the category is now a needed parent for more recent categories (not created by me) like Category:1898 establishments in Lebanon. The 2013 "consensus" you quote relates to Syria in particular changing some centuries to "Ottoman Syria" rather than Syria, and Lebanon was not mentioned (though some centuries in Lebanon could be included in "Ottoman Empire" categories). Syrian civil war sanctions

EkoGraf (talk) 22:22, 5 March 2014 (UTC)

2011-present Egyptian civil unrest

Do you think i should i go forward with the merging already? Or would it be better if i waited for a closing editor to confirm there is consensus? Fitzcarmalan (talk) 04:37, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

It seems you can, there doesn't seem to be any opposition. The only thing to consider is later renaming the Timeline article to "Egyptian civil unrest (2011-present)", which in my opinion is a much better descriptive title than just a "timeline".GreyShark (dibra) 18:20, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
I was thinking about the same thing actually. Should i go for it? Because it doesn't seem controversial. Fitzcarmalan (talk) 08:00, 7 March 2014 (UTC)

Egyptian Revolution of 2013

The POV issue hasn't been addressed yet because Lihaas never explained why the tag is there and thinks it is easy to tag an article without any explanation and leave the editors wondering for maybe decades what could possibly be wrong. The POV fork issue and the naming issue have been addressed in the AfD discussion and in the move request respectively. I kept asking Lihaas what was the tag about and eventually told him after noticing his unwillingness to discuss that i would remove it if he keeps ignoring my comments. He took this as a threat (even though i did not intend to threaten and i'm sure he knew that) and he told me that the reason why it's there is because it is a POV fork, and like i said, this was already discussed in AfD.
Lihaas keeps insisting on the POV fork claim using only one argument: "revolutions need institutional changes" → Isn't that what happened? I mentioned Lihaas so he could discuss this in the article's talk page but he ignored my entries (again). I'm not trying to look like the bad guy here, but it's not the editors' fault if someone adds a tag without a clear explanation and i'm shocked that this kind of behavior comes from an experienced editor such as Lihaas. Even though both articles discuss completely different subjects, i think the reason behind all of this is because the it was created 8 months after the events took place, but with all honesty, do you find that relevant to the discussion?
I also don't want to impose a false dilemma here, but if a tag is necessary (though i don't think any is), then only one should be there. Fitzcarmalan (talk) 16:57, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

I would like to note that since i'm personally following the process, i don't vote any more. I simply observe and conclude.GreyShark (dibra) 17:23, 10 March 2014 (UTC)
And i won't vote myself anymore because i'm sick and tired of being accused of POV-pushing by some resident users who have proven to be POV-pushers themselves and never even tried to improve the article, as if the title was the biggest issue (i'm not talking about Lihaas here). I already explained my situation to Gigs before, and i'm sure he'll understand. I will comment however, when i find irrelevant entries. Fitzcarmalan (talk) 17:35, 10 March 2014 (UTC)
I would also appreciate it if you checked all the arguments previously discussed more closely. Fitzcarmalan (talk) 17:38, 10 March 2014 (UTC)
I mostly looked at the conclusion of closing the rename request which recommended to make another rename procedure with "protests" in title, hoping that would bring more support in the vote.GreyShark (dibra) 20:21, 10 March 2014 (UTC)
While you're finally online and since i explained to you the groundless nature of the tag, can you please revert Heroasawhole (whom i highly suspect of being a sockpuppet of Hans Franssen)? I don't want to engage myself further in an edit war because i fear i have accidentally violated the 3rr. I also don't want to deal with this user anymore and i've had it with those insults followed by sugar-mouthed and hypocritical apologies. Fitzcarmalan (talk) 18:05, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
Sorry for being late, i visit wiki about twice to three times a month. I see that Franssen has indeed been a sock, good job for finding this out!.GreyShark (dibra) 19:06, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi Greyshark,

I have reverted you. This was discussed during more than 1 year and you didn't even participate to the discussion. A minimum respect would be to open a discussion with Onceawhile about this before reverting him. Pluto2012 (talk) 11:50, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

You have made a disruptive move, i shall issue a complaint.GreyShark (dibra) 11:51, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
You want to issue a complaint against me whereas I am one of the few contributors who supported some of your points of views and whereas you reverted an action that had been discussed by other contributors during 1 year ? Are you sure ?
You can lose your time in issuing a complaint but you'd better go and discuss with Onceawhile.

Reading a source

I think you may be misreading this, though admittedly I can't prove it. I think the word "there" on the end of the sentence refers to Tripoli and not to Safed. There are no "resident Egyptians" in the Safed story I think. This book mentions a blood-libel in Tripoli in 1834. Zero 07:31, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

@Zero0000: After reading it for the second and third time i see what you mean. I shall meanwhile remove it and try to find some other source, which is more clear.GreyShark (dibra) 18:08, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
I suspect it is from the article I have asked for at WP:Resource Request#Article in Studia Rosenthaliana since it is given as a reference. It is available at a library near my home, but I am very far from home for a few weeks. Zero 19:36, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, if you find out let me know as well.GreyShark (dibra) 19:59, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Well, that seems to be the source, but it adds an extra twist:

My Dutch isn't any better than google translate, but it seems to be placing the trouble in Jaffa, not in Tripoli (though I can be misreading it). Anyway it was definitely not in Safed since that city is not mentioned in the whole article. I don't see "resident Egyptians" there either; the perpetrators are identified as Turks. I can probably find a Dutch speaker to verify it. Zero 20:22, 27 March 2014 (UTC)

He he, surprises surprises. There is an old Hebrew book, which is called "The history of Jews in Ottoman domain (Tograma)" - i would perhaps take a look one day to find out what is said there.GreyShark (dibra) 17:06, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

Template:Syrian civil war detailed map

I saw that you are an experienced editor and I need your help. Editor Tradedia not once rudely violates the 1RR rule and his actions are harmful. So you could then help? Here are some examples:

  1. Hanibal911 (talk) 19:59, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
I checked it - there seems to be no violation by Tradedia. Apparently, your calculation is not precise, as 1&2&3 (Mar21) are in fact considered consecutive reverts and counted as one revert; Mar.30 reverts are also consecutive and also are considered as one. If he does a revert, is reverted back and then reverts again within less than 24h, then it is a non-consecutive punishable violation. I advice you and others to be very careful with edit-warring, because that page may soon come under protection.GreyShark (dibra) 17:23, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

List of ongoing armed conflicts

Don't you think the same we did with Egypt should be done with Yemen's conflicts? I see 3 ongoing conflicts there and they're all mentioned separately in the article which might confuse some readers who will notice the map where Yemen is coloured in red but not mentioned in the major conflicts list.
Also, should i ask Rybec to include China in yellow? Fitzcarmalan (talk) 05:43, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Yemen is different from Egypt i think, there is no direct relations between Sa'ada insurgency in the North, Southern separatism and Islamic insurgency. Yemen is more similar to Philippines, where two different conflicts take place in different parts of the country. If you can find sources which talk about Yemen in concepts of general "civil war", then maybe we can join all three conflicts in Yemen as one. I agree on China - it should definitely be colored yellow because of Xinjiang.GreyShark (dibra) 16:14, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
The reason why i thought about Yemen in particular is because the Houthis and southern separatists have this kind of sympathy for each other and because al-Qaeda helped the government fight Houthis in some occasions. The tensions there emerged and became somehow linked because of the Yemeni Revolution. However, if you feel they are not related i will not bring this up again, but do think about it a little while you can.
Regarding the Philippines.. I thought Civil conflict in the Philippines was not added because the article is of poor quality and because it appears to be deletion-worthy. I agree that there is no link between the Moro insurgents and the communists in this case.
I forgot to ask Rybec to update the map, sorry. But while i'm at it, should i ask him to shade the Koreas and Paraguay as well? Fitzcarmalan (talk) 09:50, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
Regarding Koreas - surely yes; Regarding Paraguay - probably yes.GreyShark (dibra) 18:12, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
Took this to Misplaced Pages:Graphics Lab/Map workshop#Map_of_ongoing_armed_conflicts because Rybec seems to be inactive. If there is something missing on the map please make sure to add it there. Fitzcarmalan (talk) 21:12, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
About Egypt's death toll,
I did not really use Misplaced Pages as a source because the article sections that i referred to are already sourced and are being constantly updated. However, here is a source (though it might not be a reliable count) that put up the January death toll alone to 265. We can't keep adding tens of citations for each conflict's casualties. I'm just collapsing them for now but the amount of refs is ridiculous and the citation overkill issue still exists, even if buried. Fitzcarmalan (talk) 10:12, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
We should prefer references with good statistics and not counting ourselves, but we certainly shouldn't add "you can find it in nnnn article" - this is a violation of WP:WINARS. Better just to put "citation needed", than to say the source is a wikipedia article.GreyShark (dibra) 18:12, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
I will look for sources. But how about the one with 265 dead for now? Fitzcarmalan (talk) 21:12, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Assassination of Abdullah I of Jordan

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Assassination of Abdullah I of Jordan. First, thank you for your contribution; Misplaced Pages relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Abdullah I of Jordan#Assassination. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Misplaced Pages. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Abdullah I of Jordan#Assassination – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Misplaced Pages looks forward to your future contributions. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 01:18, 21 July 2014 (UTC)

@G S Palmer: - for some reason the article was deleted immediately, without waiting for my feedback. The assassination is a notable event in the history of Jordan and Palestine and should have its own article just like Assassination of Anwar Sadat in addition to the article on Anwar Sadat.GreyShark (dibra) 18:59, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
Not surprising, since it was a speedy deletion. Anyway, I can see your point: the event may very well merit a separate article. However, you should read Misplaced Pages:Copying within Misplaced Pages if you plan on copying the section already in the article. Targetted killing

Greetings. I noticed that you added a proposal to the top of the Targeted killing page, looking to split a page off from the US section. I'd be interested in discussing this proposal, but I cannot seem to find a relevant section; did you simply forget to create such, or am I being stupid and not seeing something? Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 05:07, 17 August 2014 (UTC)

Due apologies, you did actually do so; just that the discussion had died. In any case, I would be interested in giving this another shot; would you? If not, I rather think we should remove the template from the page. Vanamonde93 (talk) 05:14, 17 August 2014 (UTC)

WP:ANI#Should these articles still be under the community place Syrian Civil War sanctions. Dougweller (talk) 09:11, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

@Dougweller: thanks for the notice. Sorry for being late, but apparently you have already reached an understanding on the topic. In any case, i strongly believe that ISIS topic is integrative to the Syrian Civil War and hence should be sanctioned. The second question whether ISIS subtopics are also relevant in regard to WP:SCWGS is of course blurred - i don't have an answer right now whether it is ok for somebody to put 1RR on Abu Baqr article (probably yes, but it is not as certain as ISIS article). In any case, it is obvious that at some point we would be required to amend the sanctions, because to borders of the Syrian / Iraqi / Lebanese conflict are increasingly blurred (with ISIS being behind much of this activity).GreyShark (dibra) 19:58, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I ended up agreeing, although I also think that the sanctions are going to need amending as the focus is shifting. Dougweller (talk) 20:41, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Hold on a second..

"The presence of these templates is not a prerequisite for issuing sanctions; however, users should be aware of sanctions before actually being sanctioned." There was no template present so I had no idea the article was under the scope, so how can you give a warning when I did not know? - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 20:16, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. I found the article only recently, and it has been there for months. I don't want to get into edit wars or anything. But since I got starting improving it, I don't think what he did was right.Ericl (talk) 20:21, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

I took the discussion to the talkpage and gave my resoning which you have not responded to yet, I admit I should not have reverted as much but had no idea that the article was under sanctions. I do not want to send the article to AfD as that should be the last resort. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 20:25, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

Guys, the notice i issued to you is not a recorded official warning. However, next time you might be officially warned (recorded warning) or even blocked.GreyShark (dibra) 20:34, 28 August 2014 (UTC)

There has been discussions and consensus here: https://en.wikipedia.org/Talk:Syrian_Kurdistan#Military_map_issues

To have the Israeli occupied part of Syria in white and the infobox exactly as I had edited the article. --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 04:20, 29 August 2014 (UTC)

What you did is a complete violation of community consensus from June 2013 and on the pages of Syrian Civil War. Please refer to discussion on talk:Syrian Civil War.GreyShark (dibra) 17:22, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
Where is the community consensus saying that a map showing the "current military situation in Syria" cant show that Israel is occupying the Golan heights? --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 13:39, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

General sanctions notification

Please read this notification carefully:
A community decision has authorised the use of general sanctions for pages related to the Syrian Civil War and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. The details of these sanctions are described here. All pages that are broadly related to these topics are subject to a one revert per twenty-four hours restriction, as described here.

General sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimise disruption in controversial topic areas. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to these topics that do not adhere to the purpose of Misplaced Pages, our standards of behaviour, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. An editor can only be sanctioned after he or she has been made aware that general sanctions are in effect. This notification is meant to inform you that sanctions are authorised in these topic areas, which you have been editing. It is only effective if it is logged here. Before continuing to edit pages in these topic areas, please familiarise yourself with the general sanctions system. Don't hesitate to contact me or another editor if you have any questions.

This message is informational only and does not imply misconduct regarding your contributions to date.

Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 26 November 2014.

Your third sentence ("Nevertheless...") is both inflammatory and patronising, so my belief that you may wish to clear the air is rapidly diminishing.
