The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) attempted to have Miss Universe 2018 be hosted in China. However the negotiations collapsed after China reportedly refused to broadcast the pageant live. The Philippines, which was the host of Miss Universe 2016, was also tapped by the MUO to host the 2018 pageant.
In April 2018, then-Philippine Tourism SecretaryWanda Tulfo Teo talked with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte of the possibility of hosting the pageant in Boracay in November 2018, which by then will be newly rehabilitated after being closed to tourists for six months. On May 6, Tulfo-Teo announced that the Philippines has a "90 percent chance" of hosting the pageant and also disclosed that the tourism department will be looking for sponsors, since the LCS Holdings Inc. of Chavit Singson, the major sponsor of the Miss Universe 2016 has begged of from financing the 2018 pageant. Tulfo's successor, Bernadette Romulo-Puyat on May 18, 2018 announced that the country dropped the hosting bid due to budget constraints and other concerns. Romulo-Puyat also pointed out that the Philippines has hosted the pageant recently.
CHINA — Qin was appointed to represent China at Miss Universe 2018 pageant, by Yue-Sai Kan the President of Miss Universe China pageant after the 2017 winner, Qiu Qiang has been dethroned from her title along with the 1st Runner-up. Qin crowned the 2nd Runner-up at the Miss Universe China 2017 pageant.
