query
Hi, First of all, i thank you for reformatting and editing the page created by me i.e. DLF Public School, Sahibabad. It looks much better now.
Actually, i had a query from you. we have mentioned about the Facebook page of the school, and we would like to mention about the details of its administrator, that is me and one of my coworker, since the students who generally visit Misplaced Pages in search of the school's details feel better to talk to their 'Peer leaders' and not the school authority for any help, thus mentioning about the peer leaders, who run the Facebook page as admins will simplify the process for the students and make it convenient for them, so can this be done?? Can i mention the details? any guidelines you would like to give for the same? Thanks Epbr123 (talk) 13:42, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Can you help me with regard to National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management, Hyderabad. Can you advice me in making this article neutral. For your kind information, the info mentioned is factual and collected from the institute itself. Being a National Institute, I felt the necessity of creating space for such a pioneer organisation which started the Agri-business management education in India.

Proposed deletion of Ravinder Kumar (wrestler)
The article Ravinder Kumar (wrestler) has been proposed for deletion because under Misplaced Pages policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Misplaced Pages:Referencing for beginners or ask at Misplaced Pages:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Epbr123 (talk) 20:43, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Quite right - I also failed to find any confirmation of anything but a non-notable high-school running career - all the rest seems to be fantasy. While I was looking into it, an IP removed your "hoax" tag, so I have taken it to AfD here. One of its editors promptly popped up to say, "why not just edit his page to be a High School athlete?" Vettinjayathil family
Hi Utcursch,
I saw a deletion notice on this article which i have created.I couldn't find any online sources for this ,could you please help me in finding reliable sources ? Kiranchandranpowathil (talk) 08:27, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
- I couldn't find any family history on web.Normally there won't be any details on web about ancient families.I enquired the family members also to find out some books in which the family is mentioned.I haven't heard anything from them also yet.Once i get i would add it.Please let me know what should i do in this case. - Thanks for your comments, I came to know that it's being told about the Vettinjayathil family in the book Edappilly Kovilakam - Charithrathinte Naazhikakkallu (Saga of Edappilly), hence I added it as an offline reference to the article. Kiranchandranpowathil (talk) 12:22, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Saini
Dear Utcursch, I saw your concerns regarding Yadu/yaduvanshi/yadav. & also about Saini. For saini, kindly see some scholarly comment about them, , which says by their own account it is derived from persian rasaini, which means "skilled gardener", given by a Moslem Ruler. it has nothing to do with shoorsaini, or Yaduvanshi. Reputed Scholars like, Sir Bhandarkar, ghurye, Karmakar, Pusalkar, Chanda, Russel, Nesfield, Bhati and many other considers only Ahir/Yadav caste/Ayir and also to a limited extent Jadaun (whom scholars consider to be offshoot of yaduvanshi ahir) while talking about the topic yadav and descendants of Yadu. I would urge you to try to improve the Saini article which is full of POVs and tries to relate to shoorsainis of ancient scripture. Infact the region Mathura was called saursena and is named after king Madhu, about whom scriptures say had gifted the entire territory of Mathura to Abhira, as per Padma Purana. So, Please try to understand the issue. Feel free to talk to me if you need any clarification. Ikon 18:21, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
Nira Radia
Regarding this.
I didn't tag the article as unreferenced. The article has statements like "A small time executive of Sahara Airlines managed to climb through connections and networking from many people of South and North and East and West India. She was introduced to Tata by a southern businessman who is a close friend of Ratan Tata and close with DMK family."
Do you think the article doesn't need a cleanup? Cheers - Amog | 17:30, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
- On hindsight, perhaps the npov tag was a little excessive. - Amog | 17:50, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

Chawngte
I'm a bit confused about Chawngte. You have it as a redirect to Lunglei district, yet it is listed in the Chakma Autonomous District Council article as its capital, located at the north eastern corner of CADC on the bank of the Tuichong river, and the Chakma Autonomous District Council is in Lawngtlai district. The State Bank of India indicates that Chawngte is in Lawngtlai. STATE BANK OF INDIA, Chawngte Branch, Lawngtlai, Mizoram, while wikimaps indicates that it is in Lunglei. Some sources list Kamalanagar as an alternative name, but there is no Kamalanagar in the GNIS for Mizoram. There is no Chawngte in the GNIS either. Wikimaps suggests that Kamalanagar is adjacent to Chawngte. There is no listing in the GNIS for the Chawngte River either. Do you have some good sources that you could refer me to? --Bejnar (talk) 18:40, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
- Going by cic.nic.in, it seems to fall in Lawngtlai. utcursch | talk 18:46, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that cic.nic.in can be trusted because it has Sangau (22° 44' N, 93° 4' E) in Lawngtlai district instead of Saiha district, where it clearly is. The US Army topo sheet "NF 46-6, Chittagong, Pakistan; India; Burma" topographic map, Series U502, U.S. Army Map Service, March 1960, places it at about 22°37′08″N 92°38′39″E / 22.61889°N 92.64417°E / 22.61889; 92.64417, which is very near the border between Lunglei district and Lawngtlai district. It is possible that it is at the border. The "Lawngtlai District Map" from Maps of India does not show it. --Bejnar (talk) 23:53, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
- I don't really know. Maybe the name Chawngte is shared by multiple places? I came across the following documents on mizoram.nic.in (the official website of the Mizoram state)
- states that Chawngte is in Lawngtlai district. states that Chawngte-P is a panchayat in the Lawngtlai block.
- states that Chawngte Post Office is in the Lunglei district. indicates that Chawngte-L and Chawngte-L is a panchayat in Lungsen (which according to Lunglei, falls in the Lunglei district.
- indicates that Chawngte is a place in the Chakma Autonomous District Council.
- Maybe the area that is now the Chakma Autonomous District Council was (or is?) located within the Lawngtali district? utcursch | talk 05:13, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
- My unit was there in Lungleh (old spelling) in the mid-eighties though I was not there myself. It appears that Lunglei is a district containing Lungtalai (the spelling told me back then) block in which Chawngte village existed. The Chakma council would be a political grouping of which probably Lunglei and other districts alsoi form a part. But this view needs corroboration. AshLin (talk) 06:11, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Salesians of Don Bosco logo.svg
Thanks for uploading File:Salesians of Don Bosco logo.svg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Misplaced Pages uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Misplaced Pages.

Greetings, I'm doing a major chop on Kayastha, removing caste puffery, adding proper citations about the controversy of their varna designation, and generally trying to hack out unref, OR, and other unsuitable materials. Likewise, even watchlisting and keeping an eye out for upset editors removing my (full footnoted) notations about their possible Shudra status (an unpopular topic) would be appreciated. Thanks! Your contributed article, Parihar Rajputs
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Parihar Rajputs. First, thank you for your contribution; Misplaced Pages relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Gurjara-Pratihara. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Misplaced Pages. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Gurjara-Pratihara - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.
If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}
) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Misplaced Pages looks forward to your future contributions. Mkrestin (talk) 09:04, 20 April 2011 (UTC)

- Sumitkachroo claims that Yaduvanshi Ahirs are a subset of Ahirs. I don't have time to check the references, but even if this is true, at least the duplication of content can be avoided. For example, the details of ancient/medieval "Yadava" dynasties should be limited to one article, not all the articles. Unfortunately, caste glorification is a big problem with such articles, and once in a while, someone will add such content back to these articles. utcursch | talk 15:06, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
IIPM caravan magazine controversy
Siddharthmukund (talk) 07:19, 26 June 2011 (UTC) I have to report undoing of my addition to the iipm page by User:Suraj845 citing unconstructive edit. Could somebody please explain the same to me as i think it is a valid controversy though going by your point earlier i think i should summarise it in 2 - 3 bullet points. Siddharthmukund (talk) 07:19, 26 June 2011 (UTC) " It was reported on June 23, 2011 in various Indian news publications, that IIPM has filed a lawsuit against The Caravan magazine claiming damages to the tune of Rs 50 crore, citing “grave harassment and injury” for its cover story of February 2011 issue which focussed on the institute’s main man Arindam Chaudhuri. The article, titled “Sweet Smell of Success: How Arindam Chaudhuri Made a Fortune Off the Aspirations—and Insecurities—of India’s Middle Classes”, was written by Siddhartha Deb, a contributing editor at The Caravan and a university professor based in New York. The article was adapted from his book "The Beautiful And The Damned: Life In The New India" published in India by Penguin. Apart from Caravan, the suit also charges Siddhartha Deb,the author, Penguin (the publisher of the book), and Google India (which, the suit alleges, has been “publishing, distributing, giving coverage, circulating, blogging the defamatory, libellous and slanderous articles”).
The suit against The Caravan was filed not in Delhi, where both IIPM and the magazine’s publisher, Delhi Press, are based, but 2,200 km away in Silchar, Assam at the Court of Civil Judge by Kishorendu Gupta, the first plaintiff, reportedly operating Gupta Electrical Engineers in a Silchar suburb, and IIPM, the second plaintiff.
According to a statement put on its website by The Caravan, “Kishorendu Gupta is a commissioned agent who works for IIPM on a contractual basis. Although Gupta is called a counsellor, a contract between Gupta and IIPM shows Gupta is a recruitment agent who has commercial interest and is paid for his service on a commission basis. IIPM’s contract with Gupta states: ‘for number of students enrolled between 1 to 24, the compensation would be 75,000 per student … for anyone who crosses the 25 students mark, the compensation would be 90,000 per student… for anyone who crosses the 50 student mark, the compensation would be 1,25,000 per student” (From the agreement submitted by the plaintiffs in the court).’”
The Caravan has said its parent company Delhi Press will fight the case and publish the updates in its 30 magazines in nine languages, which together have a readership of over 30 million people.
The article in its entirety can be seen on * | True Story : Arindam Chaudhuri
IIPM has earlier too filed similar lawsuits against certain other publishers, also in Silchar, Assam. The case against Rashmi Bansal, a blogger and editor of Just Another Magazine (JAM), in 2005 and Careers360 magazine, published by Maheshwar Peri (both mentioned above). The cases against Rashmi Bansal and Careers360 are both still underway at the Silchar courts. "
Conflict of interest suspected
Noticing your talk page and user details, I noticed an apparent conflict of interest in your editing when you attempt to edit the IIPM page. My suggestion; from now on, rather than editing CoI pages yourself, take your discussions to the talk page. Let consensus come and then allow someone else to add or delete information. List of Indian engineering college rankings
Hi Utcursch, I noticed that you PRODed the page List of Indian engineering college rankings. The page had been AfDed before (by me, ironically), and I recall having seen somewhere that a previous AfD disqualifies the article from a PROD. In any case, I based the article on the FL List_of_United_States_graduate_business_school_rankings (after rgpk's comment in the previous AfD). I don't think it can be classified as a copyvio, but of course, I'm open to discussion! Lynch7 11:13, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi Utcursch,
You added in Jun 2010 Nandu Jayal's name to Scindia School alumni category. He is from Doon school. No mention in my refs or in our Corps archive mentions Scindia school. Do you have a ref for this? AshLin (talk) 16:58, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Anders Behring Breivik
It was improper to close the AfD after only 2 hours while emotions were running high so soon after the event. There were reasonable objections to keeping the article and the discussion was far from unanimous therefore calling SNOW was improper. The AfD should have been allowed to run its full term. The process was ignored and the discussion was ended prematurely. ShipFan (talk) 15:52, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- I disagree and commend you for your closing statement. Interested editors ought to move on to improving the group of articles. The Breivik article could be nominated for deletion again after some time has passed. However, I very much doubt that there will ever be consensus to delete this article. Cullen Let's discuss it 16:35, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- I too support your closing. Your closing statement did raise an interesting question for me regarding whether WP:BLP1E is a policy or a guideline (it reads like the latter but the page implies the former without making either explicit). I have started a discussion about this at Misplaced Pages talk:Biographies of living persons#Policy and/or guideline in which you might like to participate. Thryduulf (talk) 17:09, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Re. closure of Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Anders Behring Breivik
WP:BLP1E is not a guideline, as you state - it's policy. Chzz ► 18:12, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- WP:BLP is certainly a policy, but WP:BLP1E is more of a guideline. utcursch | talk 18:17, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- I really do not understand that response. The shortcut "WP:BLP1E" points to a section on a page which is a policy. It's policy, surely? It's part of "Misplaced Pages:Biographies of living persons". If it isn't policy, then I'm totally misunderstanding something, somewhere. Chzz ► 19:58, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- WP:BLP states what should be done while dealing with BLPs - NPOV, Verifiability and NOR. WP:BLP1E doesn't enforce anything – it uses words like "generally avoid having an article", "usually better to merge", "a separate biography may be appropriate", "may support the notability". utcursch | talk 20:31, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- Are you still disputing whether or not BLP1E is policy? Chzz ► 20:39, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

- Yes, if by "policy" you mean a rule that has to be followed religiously as per the general community consensus. The only part of the page WP:BLP that has generally been accepted as a "policy" is the one listed at Misplaced Pages:List of policies#Content: "Unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material—whether negative, positive, or just questionable—about living persons should be removed immediately and without discussion from Misplaced Pages articles, talk pages, user pages, and project space."
- WP:BLP1E is not a policy in that sense -- it's essentially a notability guideline listed on a policy page. It was simply added to the page in 2007 as a part of an argument originally made by Uncle G. utcursch | talk 20:59, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- Just for the record, I agree with how Utcursch is describing BLP1E (although, the SNOW closure was a bit uncalled for). The whole section of that policy is written in ambivalent language, purposefully so. It's guidance on how to apply the BLP policy within a narrow class of articles. It was written that way from the beginning, and my feeling is that the vast majority of editors (especially those who normally edit in the current events area) hold similar views.

Western Punjabi
Hello. I would like to ask you what your sources are for this and this change. You make a distinction between Western Punjabi and Punjabi as spoken in Pakistan. I, as member of the Language committee have approved a Western Punjabi Misplaced Pages a few years ago. I read concerns about the correctness of the Western Punjabi Misplaced Pages (by the way, are you the person who wrote it?). I have no relation with the language, but I investigated it thoroughly and as far as I can see "Western Punjabi" refers to the Punjabi language as spoken in Pakistan, which is only slightly different from Punjabi as spoken in India. Thinking logically, it would be strange if there was a language of 60 million speakers with only such a small article that is Western Punjabi (with only a few articles on other language Wikipedias). Furthermore, the Ethnologue map shows only one Punjabi area in Pakistan, labelled "Western Punjabi". So, could you explain why you made a distinction between Western Punjabi and Punjabi as spoken in Pakistan? It is of course possible that I am wrong, but I doubt it. Thank you, SPQRobin (talk) 13:15, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- These zones are not strict categorisations. Punjabi-Lahnda is a dialect continuum where Ethnologue has drawn the line on the Pakistani-Indian border (Punjabi (pan) does not even mention speakers in Pakistan), whereas this map draws the line of the zones more to the west. Ethnologue often has strange categorisations. SPQRobin (talk) 13:47, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- So it appears that what Ethnologue designates as "Western Punjabi"-speaking area, is classified by Grierson and others as "Eastern Punjabi" area. The article on Western Punjabi needs clarification because the infobox refers to the Ethnologue classification, but the article content is mainly about the Grierson classification... Hey
What's up Utcursch? Long time no see. I turn to you in regard to the Helen (actress) page, because you have already been involved with its move in the past and now someone once again moved it without starting any discussion. I also cannot really understand where the middle family name "Jairag" comes from. I see that the redirect has not turned into any disambiguation page and is now even proposed for deletion. Shahid • 09:05, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, since this article has involved several move disputes till now, I think it'd be a good idea to discuss a requested move (similar to Talk:Mahabharata#Move_back). It'd settle the matter for once and all. utcursch | talk 11:55, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
- Because the move happened without any proper discussion, and the redirect page is just an empty page, I've moved it back. I've started a new talk page discussion, you can take part in it. Shahid • 21:08, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Cry Baby Lane ref
Hi. I was looking at Cry Baby Lane and noticed that you were the one who added the reference for "Exploring America's Highways: Minnesota Trip Trivia." Would you mind explaining to me how in the world a guidebook to Minnesota highways would have any information at all about this film (and apparently the specific information that a presumably non-notable actress portrayed the part of "Ann Weber")? While I'm not accusing you of making up the ref or anything, you have to admit it looks pretty strange. Thanks for clarifying. Theoldsparkle (talk) 17:08, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Yadav vs Yadava
Hi, SpacemanSpiff has mentioned your name in the past re: knowledge of caste-related articles etc. I have a bit of a problem at Yadav regarding Bill clinton history & wonder if you can shed any light.
The gist is that Bch keeps inserting information into the article about old Yadava dynasties from the 14th century and earlier (Devagiri etc). Despite being asked on numerous occasions, Bch has never yet been able to provide a reliable source which confirms that these old Yadava communities are connected to the modern Yadav community. On the other hand, I have found clear-cut sources which say that the connection was a concoction made around the time that sankritisation appeared as a movement and that the support for the theory has been promoted pretty much entirely by Yadavs themselves.
Do you know anything about this? I am not sure if Bch is simply being POV-y or if they are struggling to understand what is required if such statements are to stay in the article. Even the RS that have been provided by Bch seem to go no further than "it is possible but unlikely" or "Yadavs claim ..." - both of which are already dealt with at a general level in the article. Could it be that I & others are not getting our point across very well? Whatever it is, the disruption is holding up some intended improvements & so some sort of resolution is needed. I have previously mentioned this to EdJohnston because they blocked Bch for edit warring recently, but I think that this really needs some specialist input, ie: someone who knows a bit about the caste system etc. - Sitush (talk) 16:29, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
- I have seen your message at Talk:Yadav. Thanks for your comments. We'll see if Bch agrees or not. I suspect it will be the latter, but hey-ho we can but try. - Sitush (talk) 17:18, 21 August 2011 (UTC)
