Calendar expansion and changes

  • As Ramadan will begin on March 10, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix has been moved to Saturday. To ensure a suitable gap between races, the season opener in Bahrain will also be on a Saturday.
  • In an effort to create a more regionalised calendar, multiple Grands Prix changed their date. The Japanese Grand Prix was moved from its September slot into April, while the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was moved the other way around and is now scheduled to be held in September.
  • The Chinese Grand Prix will return to the calendar after being cancelled for four years due to difficulties presented by the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
  • The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, cancelled due to heavy flooding in the area, will also return to the calendar.

Notes

  1. In the history of Formula One, regulations were first introduced during the 1946 Grand Prix season. These were adopted for every race in 1948, and were formally organised into a championship in 1950.
